49ers place Carlos Hyde, three others on NFI list

Today, the San Francisco 49ers placed the following players on their active NFI (non-football injury) list according to numerous sources.

RB Carlos Hyde
OT Trent Brown
LB Aaron Lynch
WR DeAndre Smelter

It is important to note that, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, none of these players' injuries are believed to be long-term issues and anyone on the NFI or PUP list can be activated at any point during training camp.

The team also placed C Daniel Kilgore on PUP (physically unable to perform) list.

According to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle, 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula said that Hyde had a minor muscle pull back in late May. It is unknown if that is the issue that temporarily placed him on the list.

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch announced a few roster moves before a Monday afternoon press conference conducted via Zoom. One was the decision to place safety D.J. "The earliest we might have had D.J. back was early November. It's a four-to-six-month injury, so that's been an active conversation Kyle and myself and the medical folks have been having. Ultimately, too difficult to keep a roster spot for something that may go into December. So we made that

The San Francisco 49ers announced several roster moves on Tuesday. Running back Jeff Wilson Jr. and wide receiver Richie James Jr. have been activated off of the reserve/COVID-19 list. That means the team no longer has any players on the list. James, however, is being moved to the active/non-football-injury list due to the broken wrist he suffered in June. The 49ers waived safety D.J. Reed with an injury designation. He will revert to NFI reserve once he clears waivers. Reed suffered a torn pectoral muscle in June and will miss the season. "That's a tough one for us," general manager John Lynch told reporters on Monday.
