Why Kyle Shanahan doesn't have the 49ers do wet-ball drills

By David Bonilla

Levi's Stadium is expected to be drenched from a downpour of rain when the San Francisco 49ers host the Indianapolis Colts tonight. The anticipation of rain will often lead to coaches holding wet-ball drills during practices. Head coach Kyle Shanahan doesn't believe in doing that, however, and explained why this week. "I bring it up and talk to the players about it," Shanahan told NBC Sports Bay Area. "So, they're all thinking about it mentally so they can get ready however it effects them. I know, at least when I played football, when I thought about the rain is when I dropped everything. So I try to not think about it, and try to catch it the same, try to do stuff. And I always felt, mentally, that was a lot better. You always thought it might slip and stuff, and you get

Another week, another close loss, and another game with multiple missed opportunities for the 49ers. It's been the same narrative during the 49ers' current three-game losing streak, and Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals now puts the team at 2-3 on the season as it heads into its bye week. Huge news came Monday afternoon, as Kyle Shanahan noted that rookie quarterback Trey Lance suffered a left knee sprain and will be out for 1-2 weeks, leaving Nate Sudfeld as the only healthy quarterback currently on the roster. Joe Staley: Jimmy Garoppolo will start, but 49ers are more exciting with Trey Lance

Former San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle, Joe Staley, went on KNBR Radio on Monday to discuss the 49ers' loss to the Arizona Cardinals. As expected, the conversation went to the quarterback situation with Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance, including who Staley believed would be under center in two weeks when the 49ers play the Indianapolis Colts. "I think he made his decision before the season even started," Staley said on the Papa & Lund show. "If Jimmy's healthy, he's going to be our quarterback this year. They want to use it as a red-shirt year, almost, for Trey this season. I was encouraged." That seemed to be the plan in the offseason, to have Lance sit and learn. Even after the game on Sunday, Kyle Shanahan continued to hold his ground that

Do the 49ers have an identity crisis on offense? Joe Staley thinks so...and he's not alone

Do the San Francisco 49ers have an identity crisis on offense? Former 49ers great, and current analyst, Joe Staley, thinks so. And he's not the only one. Staley went on KNBR's Papa & Lund show on Monday to talk 49ers. In addition to saying Kyle Shanahan will likely go back to Jimmy Garoppolo in two weeks, but that the offense is more exciting with Trey Lance, Staley spent some time talking about the identity of the team. Particularly, the identity of the offense. "What's been shocking to me is that, one of the things, too, has been that stretch zone, but all the play-action roll-outs, that was one of our identities, the keep game. And it hasn't been
