49ers sign Jerome Simpson to a 2-year deal

Mar 5, 2015 at 2:24 PM--

It's been a busy day for the San Francisco 49ers. According to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, the team has signed former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson to a two-year contract.

Simpson visited with the 49ers on Wednesday. He did not play last season. The Vikings released him in September as he was serving a suspension for violating the NFL's policy on substances of abuse.

In September of 2011, he was suspended by the Cincinnati Bengals after being charged with having two pounds of marijuana shipped to his home. He was also arrested in 2013 and charged with marijuana possession in July of 2014.

Simpson was drafted out of Coastal Carolina in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Bengals.

In 2013, he had 48 receptions for 726 yards with the Vikings.

Last year, San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle became the first-ever recipient of the Dwight Clark Legacy Award. It's an honor presented to a 49ers player who best exemplifies the late receiver's spirit of teamwork. According to Steve Young, this year's recipient will be defensive lineman Arik Armstead. The Hall of Fame quarterback revealed the news on Wednesday morning during KNBR's Murph & Mac show. Of course, the guest list on the website for the June 1 event, the Dwight Clark Legacy Series, likely hinted that Armstead would be the recipient. The

The San Francisco 49ers announced that they have signed tight end Troy Fumagalli to a one-year deal. To make room on the roster, the team waived tight end Garrett Walston. Fumagalli was among the tryout players at the 49ers' rookie minicamp. Something noteworthy: The tight end's left index finger was amputated due to a condition known as amniotic band syndrome. "It happened at birth, so I don't know any better," Fumagalli told ESPN in 2016 (h/t Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle). "If you were to ask me if I imagined a finger on my left hand, I feel like that's in the way of things. I wouldn't want it

The NFL will unveil the league's complete 272-game 2022 schedule on Thursday night at 5:00 p.m. PT. It is common for select week-to-week opponent matchups to leak before the official announcement. I've created this tracker to collect those leaks as the official schedule release time approaches. As usual, the San Francisco 49ers will meet each NFC West team twice. On May 4, the NFL revealed that the 49ers will travel to Mexico City on November 21 to face the Arizona Cardinals at Estadio Azteca—a Week 11 primetime matchup on ESPN's Monday Night Football. The 49ers will face the third-place teams in the NFC East, NFC North, and AFC East. The team is also slated to play the entire NFC South and AFC West. NFL Kickoff Weekend will begin on
