49ers sign Jerome Simpson to a 2-year deal

It's been a busy day for the San Francisco 49ers. According to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, the team has signed former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson to a two-year contract.

Simpson visited with the 49ers on Wednesday. He did not play last season. The Vikings released him in September as he was serving a suspension for violating the NFL's policy on substances of abuse.

In September of 2011, he was suspended by the Cincinnati Bengals after being charged with having two pounds of marijuana shipped to his home. He was also arrested in 2013 and charged with marijuana possession in July of 2014.

Simpson was drafted out of Coastal Carolina in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Bengals.

In 2013, he had 48 receptions for 726 yards with the Vikings.

The San Francisco 49ers announced that the team has re-signed cornerback Ken Webster to a one-year deal. He was scheduled to become an exclusive-rights free agent. The New England Patriots made Webster a seventh-round selection out of Ole Miss in 2019, but the defensive back was part of the team's final roster cuts. He landed with the Miami Dolphins and appeared in eight games with five starts in 2019 but finished the season on injured reserve. San Francisco signed Webster off the Dolphins practice squad on September 16, 2020. He appeared in nine games with the 49ers this past season, registering six tackles and a forced fumble before a hamstring injury landed the defender on injured reserve on December 1, 2020. Webster, 24, has recorded 25 tackles,

PFF predicts 49ers re-sign Trent Williams to this massive deal

By David Bonilla
Jan 13, 2021

One way or another, offensive tackle Trent Williams is about to become an even richer man. It could be with the San Francisco 49ers, which traded for the offensive lineman last year to replace a retiring Joe Staley, or it could be with another team. The 49ers had contract talks with Williams' representatives before the team's final game of the season but couldn't come to an agreement. The veteran tackle admits that his preferred offseason outcome would be a return to San Francisco but is curious about his free-agency value. "It's been 11 years in the league,"

Saleh, Jets Could Thwart 49ers' Plans to Re-Sign Secondary

By Levin T. Black
Jan 16, 2021

The San Francisco 49ers don't have a secondary at this time. That's not an exaggeration. As of right now, the only player from the secondary to play significant minutes who is not a pending free agent is free safety Jimmie Ward. Here's a list of the players from the secondary who played at least 100 snaps in 2020 but would have to get new contracts if they were to play for the 49ers again: Richard Sherman, Jason Verrett, Jaquiski Tartt, K'Waun Williams, Emmanuel Moseley, Akhello Witherspoon, Marcell Harris, Dontae Johnson, Jamar Taylor. Only one of these is not an unrestricted free agent. Moseley is an exclusive restricted free agent, meaning the 49ers will be able to re-sign him if they choose to. As long as the 49ers offer him a league minimum contract, Moseley is
