49ers sign Jerome Simpson to a 2-year deal

Mar 5, 2015 at 2:24 PM--

It's been a busy day for the San Francisco 49ers. According to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, the team has signed former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jerome Simpson to a two-year contract.

Simpson visited with the 49ers on Wednesday. He did not play last season. The Vikings released him in September as he was serving a suspension for violating the NFL's policy on substances of abuse.

In September of 2011, he was suspended by the Cincinnati Bengals after being charged with having two pounds of marijuana shipped to his home. He was also arrested in 2013 and charged with marijuana possession in July of 2014.

Simpson was drafted out of Coastal Carolina in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Bengals.

In 2013, he had 48 receptions for 726 yards with the Vikings.

The accolades for San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa keep piling up. After leading the league with 18.5 sacks, the talented pass rusher was named a first-team All-Pro and named to his third Pro Bowl roster. Add another honor to Bosa's resume. The defensive end has been named the Pro Football Writers of America's (PFWA) Defensive Player of the Year. The San Francisco 49ers are now focused on the offseason, with their season ending at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles in a 31-7 loss on Sunday in the NFC Championship Game. Which means it's time for personnel decisions, likely coaching staff departures, and of course, quarterback talk. But, one of the biggest questions that the 49ers face come with free agent right tackle Mike McGlinchey, who is likely to earn the most money of any San Francisco free agent in 2022. McGlinchey has faced his ups and downs as a 49er, but has been a valuable run-defender, and the starting right tackle for the past five seasons. However, he is likely to command a hefty salary on the open market, and could look for a fresh opportunity after the amount of

The San Francisco 49ers are officially in offseason mode after their 31-7 NFC Championship loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, and enter it with unfortunate news, as quarterback Brock Purdy suffered a torn UCL, which will keep him out for at least six months, pending on a choice for surgery. That leaves the 49ers with quarterback Trey Lance as their current top quarterback option heading into the offseason, who is progressing through his recovery from a torn ACL. However, there is another domino that must be addressed: the free agency of Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, who has long been connected to the San Francisco 49ers, given the hometown connection. With the dots potentially aligning, should the 49ers sign Brady to a
