Mike Holmgren reportedly interested in 49ers head coaching job

Dec 26, 2014 at 11:40 AM--

CSN Philly is reporting that Mike Holmgren is interested in the San Francisco 49ers head coaching job. He is said to be interested simply in coaching and not a general manager or personnel position at this point in his life.

Holmgren has not been a head coach since the 2008 season with the Seattle Seahawks. He has won three NFC championships and a Super Bowl as a head coach. He served as the 49ers quarterback coach from 1986 to 1988 and as the offensive coordinator from 1989 to 1991.

It it is unknown how interested the 49ers would be in Holmgren.

The 49ers and current head coach Jim Harbaugh are expected to part ways within 24 to 48 hours following the team's game against the Arizona Cardinals in Santa Clara on Sunday.

Whenever Seth Wickersham reveals a tidbit of his new book, "It's Better to Be Feared," examining the New England Patriots dynasty, Tom Brady, and his departure from the team, it always seems specifically directed at 49ers fans. And no, I'm not exaggerating. Earlier today, more news from Wickersham's book was revealed via ESPN scout Matt Miller, where it was reported that the Patriots allegedly offered a second-round pick for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on Day 1 of the 2021 NFL Draft, to which the 49ers desired a first-rounder in return. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan believes he's yet to find a consistent play-calling rhythm this season

Six games into the 2021 season, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan says he has still yet to have a game where he's truly found a groove from a play-calling perspective. The 49ers have had their inconsistencies on offense throughout the season, with their 30-18 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7 being the latest example. The offense got off to a strong start against the Colts with a touchdown on the opening drive followed by two field goals before the end of the first quarter, but from there they went into a funk that saw them put together seven failed possessions before finding the end zone one more time in the fourth quarter. Shanahan was asked in his postgame press conference if he felt he's gotten into a play-calling rhythm for an entire game at any point

Better Rivals: DeMeco Ryans and the 49ers defense is doing a phenomenal job

By Marc Adams

If defense still wins championships, fans of the San Francisco 49ers must have been teeming with anxiety over the thought of having to rely on the defense, as they have been able to, in recent years. It has stressed me out. But you can rest easy, San Francisco fans, the tide may be turning. Through the first four games of the season, the 49ers defense looked a little Jekyll and Hyde. There were moments in each of those games where the defense looked like the dominant unit we have grown accustomed to seeing. But there were also moments in which they looked lost (see Rodgers, Aaron). The game against Green Bay was the low point, letting the Packers kick a game-winning field goal, even though they had no timeouts and only 37 seconds left. If the first four

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing to play the Indianapolis Colts this weekend. Offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel and defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans spoke with reporters after today's practice. Here is everything they had to say. Transcript provided by the San Francisco 49ers Communications staff. Offensive Coordinator Mike McDaniel Are you ready for Sunday night? "I wish it was right now. I can tell you this much, our entire team is ready to play football again. We've had about a month of sour taste in our mouth, so we're all pretty eager to get on the field and play our way through this. And I desperately wish you guys would have told me it's Sunday afternoon right now, because it seems like a long
