Trade for a cornerback in the works?

Oct 10, 2006 at 11:14 PM--

Over the past few days, Matt Maiocco has been hinting at a possible trade in his Press Democrat blog, Instant 49ers. Could the San Francisco 49ers be targeting a cornerback?

When asked by a fan about a potential trade for a cornerback, Maiocco replied with the following:

I have credible information that something could happen. You'll be the first to know when I get it nailed down.

When asked again about the potential trade for a corner, Maiocco said this:

As for the news about the CB, you'll know when I get it nailed down. I don't want to start any rumors.

Maiocco has been very careful not to drop any player or team names but appears to feel that something may be in the works. The 49ers are currently ranked 25th in the league against the pass allowing 224 yards per game.

By David Bonilla
May 23

Head coach Kyle Shanahan has been pleased with what he's seen from Trey Lance during these first two organized team activities (OTAs) practices. The third-year quarterback entered last season as the team's starting quarterback. An ankle injury during Week 2 ended that. Now fully recovered, Lance is looking to prove himself to his coaches. "We'll make sure to get that right." A reporter was already asking another question when Shanahan interrupted him to clear up a potential misconception about "first-team reps." "And the first-team is kind of funny because

Kyle Shanahan feels "really fortunate" with 49ers' QB room

By David Bonilla

Kyle Shanahan praises his quarterback room every year. Last season, the San Francisco 49ers went through three starting quarterbacks and still made it to the NFC Championship Game. Trey Lance was the Week 1 starter but suffered a season-ending ankle injury during his second game. Eleven weeks later, Jimmy Garoppolo sustained a broken foot. That opened the door for rookie Brock Purdy to show his coaches and the NFL world that he belonged, despite being the last overall pick in the draft. Purdy guided the 49ers to eight consecutive wins before suffering a severe injury in that NFC title game matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Two of the quarterbacks from last season—Lance and Purdy—remain. Both are just 23 years old. They are joined by Sam

The San Francisco 49ers entered the offseason with several questions after key figures, such as Jimmie Ward, Mike McGlinchey, Samson Ebukam, and Charles Omenihu, departed in free agency, creating the possibility for position battles in organized team activities(OTAs) and training camp. While several of the starting spots are solidified, there are still a few position battles to watch, as well as depth questions that could allow younger players to compete and take 53-man roster spots at the end of the offseason. Let's break down some of those battles to watch and how they could play out for the 49ers, outside of the obvious competition at
