NFL analyst believes Jimmy Garoppolo starts for 49ers after hearing more about Trey Lance doubt

By David Bonilla
May 18

Ryan Harris, a former offensive lineman turned broadcaster and analyst, joined CBS Sports HQ to discuss the young quarterbacks of the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears. He was asked which passer—Trey Lance or Justin Fields—finds himself in the best situation. Harris' answer? Lance, who is on a roster coming off an NFC title game appearance. However, there is one caveat to that answer. "But I'm here to tell you, after people I've talked to, everyone I've spoken to expected Jimmy Garoppolo to start [Week 1 against the Bears]," Harris said. There has been an offseason narrative that Trey Lance is not yet ready to step into the starting role for a team built to win now. Of course, those who follow the 49ers closely realize that if that

No surprises in NFL.com's listing of 49ers' remaining offseason priorities

Marc Sessler listed the biggest remaining offseason priorities for each NFC team, and those for the San Francisco 49ers won't shock anyone. Two storylines have dominated the Niners' offseason. The first is finding a way to get rid of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. The second is signing wide receiver Deebo Samuel to a contract extension. Garoppolo has remained on the roster for longer than most anticipated. The 49ers tried to trade the veteran quarterback, but offseason shoulder surgery halted discussions with other teams. Garoppolo is expected to start throwing again by late June or early July. The big question is, will there be any demand by

Pro Football Focus (PFF) did their annual ranking of the top 25 players under 25 entering the season, compiling a list of the many young stars that have taken over football in the past few years. With the criteria being "under 25," several players graduated from PFF's rankings last year, including 49ers' star linebacker Fred Warner, who came in as the best player under 25 on PFF's list in 2021, which was ahead of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, then-Tennessee Titans receiver A.J. Brown, and San Francisco's own Nick Bosa, who slotted in at two, three, and four, respectively on the list. In their 2022 version, PFF ranked Bosa as their best player under 25 in 2022, ahead of quarterback Justin Herbert, running back Jonathan Taylor, and most notably,

NFL analyst believes 49ers concerned about Trey Lance's arm fitness

By Marc Adams

On Wednesday, David Bonilla, of 49ers Webzone, reported on comments made by Ryan Harris, a former offensive lineman turned broadcaster and analyst, who announced the latest in the "Trey Lance is a bust" world tour. The San Francisco 49ers' young signal-caller has faced a barrage of questions and statements from national media, suggesting the second-year QB is not ready to be named the starter. The fact that Jimmy Garoppolo is still on the 49ers roster doesn't help. But the team has said they believe in Lance and that he's progressing well. The continued national opinions and reports, however, have suggested the opposite. Harris,
