Kyle Shanahan was the one who called about Aaron Rodgers as 49ers did their due diligence

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan joined the Rich Eisen Show on Monday morning and discussed the team's interest in Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers leading to the draft. Really, it was just the team doing its due diligence, but it was a hot rumor that made for some interesting discussion leading to the draft. "The exact truth is I didn't want to wake up the next day, on Friday, and see Aaron Rodgers, one of the best quarterbacks in this league, traded, without doing any due diligence on it," Shanahan explained to Eisen (h/t to Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group). "So I just called Matt and asked him if there was anything to it, and Matt told me I'd be wasting my

Many felt the San Francisco 49ers were targeting Mac Jones of Alabama when they traded up to the No. 3 overall pick on March 26. They were wrong. At least, that is what we have been told since the draft. Shanahan started doing a deep dive into Lance's film in January, and the more he watched, the more he got excited. During his vacation in Cabo San Lucas, he spent time reviewing the young quarterback's film, sending his notes to Lynch, sometimes in the middle of the night. Shanahan liked Jones too and was fine drafting him at No. 12 — their pre-trade draft slot. But Lance, on the

The All-Pro recently spoke with Matt Verderame on the Stacking The Box podcast (h/t to Tzvi Machlin of The Spun) and shared a story from the 2017 NFL Draft when a team tried to move up to grab him. Kittle's agent told him that he felt the former Iowa tight end might be selected as high as the second round, if lucky. However, most likely, they were looking at somewhere between the third and the sixth rounds. The 49ers ended up selecting Kittle in the fifth round, No. 146 overall, but

Field Yates of ESPN reported today that the San Francisco 49ers have finalized their decision on who to draft at No. 3 overall. "I'm told the work is done in Santa Clara," said Yates. "They have wrapped up their draft meetings officially. They're ready to make this pick, but it's in the hands of Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch."
