NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is reporting that free agent cornerback Sean Smith, formerly of the Miami Dolphins, is traveling to visit with someone. Who? No one is sure yet.

The San Francisco 49ers were reported as one of the teams interested in Smith. He has played four seasons with Miami Dolphins after being drafted by them in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He has had 211 tackles, 5 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles.

The Chiefs had been interested in Smith, but they agreed to a deal with cornerback Dunta Robinson on Friday, March 8.

Baldy: 49ers QB Brock Purdy has Montana-like poise

By David Bonilla
Sep 26

Brock Purdy's statistics from last Thursday night's game against the New York Giants don't paint the whole picture. Yes, Purdy threw for a career-high 310 yards, but the Giants defense was getting pressure on the San Francisco 49ers' second-year quarterback. That didn't phase Purdy, though. He wasn't rattled. And that is just one of many traits that has one NFL analyst impressed with the 23-year-old. "Obviously, the best that ever did it right there, Joe Montana, he had that. You couldn't rattle him," Brian Baldinger said Tuesday morning on 95.7 The Game's "The Morning Roast" show. "I'm not comparing him to Joe Montana. I'm not doing anything like that, but he does have that composure. He does have that poise." Some passes have come close, but

Why Alex Smith continues to be impressed by 49ers QB Brock Purdy

By David Bonilla

The San Francisco 49ers have been impressive through their first two games of the season. Quarterback Brock Purdy continues to win. His regular-season win streak could extend to eight games on Thursday night, with the Niners hosting the New York Giants at Levi's Stadium. One former player who remains impressed by the 49ers' second-year quarterback is Alex Smith. Smith addressed those who question whether Purdy, the last overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, is for real and if the young quarterback can "take this team the distance." "He doesn't look like Josh Allen or Justin Herbert, the guys that we want to label these premier quarterbacks in the NFL, but he's built, and it's a perfect place to be because he's an amazing facilitator of this offense," Smith said on

By Rohan Chakravarthi

The San Francisco 49ers announced their weekly practice squad elevations, sharing that wide receiver Willie Snead and cornerback Kendall Sheffield will be called up to the active roster for their Week 4 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. With the announcement that Snead would be called up, one may assume that 49ers wideout Deebo Samuel's status would be trending down, as the 49ers expect to add another wideout to the active roster for Week 4. However, it's actually the opposite. Looking at the injury report, the 49ers aren't at risk of just missing Samuel, but
