Reinfeldt update; Rumph back at corner
Pro Football Weekly reports the following:
Mike Reinfeldt update
We hear it won't be long before the Niners add a heavyweight executive with NFL experience to the team's front office who will have significant power within the organization. At the top of the list of prospective hires — we hear the team has had talks with at least four candidates — is Seahawks vice president/football administration Mike Reinfeldt, a key behind-the-scenes contributor to Seattle's success in 2005.
Rumph back at corner
When Niners DB Mike Rumph returns from his plantar-fascia injury this offseason, word is he'll do so as a cornerback. The team tried to convert Rumph into a safety last season but concluded that the former first-round pick was unable to develop the vision needed for the position.
Rookie advice from Alex Smith
Niners QB Alex Smith told PFW at the Super Bowl what advice he would have for a young quarterback like Matt Leinart or Vince Young as a highly touted rookie: "Your rookie year is so unique, and every situation is different. But as much coverage as the NFL gets, there are going to be bumps in the road, and people are going to start talking about you and different things. And of course, those guys have had so much success that most of the talk is good about them. But it will be important to just put everything aside and stay the course, stay with the grind, stay late and put the time in. And especially early, keep your mouth shut. You're a rookie. It's kinda good if you go unheard from or unseen for a little while. Just put in your dues. You're going to take some bumps in the road, but it'll pass."

Have the 49ers anointed Brock Purdy too soon?
As the sun rose over the horizon, fans of the San Francisco 49ers came from all over, with great anticipation, as General Manager, John Lynch, slowly trudged his way upon the hill, disappearing into the fog for just a moment, and reappearing with Kyle Shanahan, to proclaim Brock Purdy the heir to the 49ers' QB throne. (Cue the "Circle of Life" track!)
Alright, so it wasn't exactly like that. But the 49ers' brass has made it a point this offseason to ensure everyone knows Purdy is the team's starting quarterback, once he's healthy. And while it may have lacked the drama of a scene from The Lion King, the declaration was just as impactful. (You know, if we could have had Lynch look out over the kingdom, and then hold young Purdy up in front of the team's cheering

The San Francisco 49ers have compiled one of the NFL's best rosters, hence their overall success over the last four seasons, which includes a Super Bowl appearance and three trips to the NFC Championship.
A big portion of that success? The developed talent along the defensive line, which has been the core of the team ever since head coach Kyle Shanahan took over in 2017.
After a down, but still fairly strong year from the defensive line in 2022, San Francisco added defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, who had 11 sacks on the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022, to bolster the interior alongside Arik Armstead.
Hargrave joins defensive end Nick Bosa, who led the team with 18.5 sacks en route to winning the Defensive Player of the Year award in
Christian McCaffrey calls Kyle Shanahan's 49ers scheme the "most sustainable" in the NFL
You've heard stories about San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan installing a play and breaking down exactly how he expects the defense to react. Then, when the players execute the play, everything occurs as the coach explained, as if he had a crystal ball to predict the outcome.
Shanahan is a confident play-caller, emphasizing execution by his players to ensure everything goes as planned. The 49ers acquired a big-time playmaker last season, trading for star running back Christian McCaffrey, who had already established himself as one of the most versatile players in the league.
Even McCaffrey marvels at the things his play-caller comes up
49ers expect Brock Purdy to begin throwing this week
The San Francisco 49ers expect their second-year quarterback, Brock Purdy, to start throwing again this week. Purdy underwent surgery on March 10 to repair the tear of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow, an injury sustained on January 29 in the NFC Championship Game. The expectations were always for the quarterback to start throwing again in early June.
Purdy won't be doing anything excessive at first. He will likely be limited as this portion of his rehabilitation begins, and his workload will ramp up in the coming months.
Purdy's return timeline remains up in the air. However, the team will know more once he starts throwing again. Head
