Kyle Shanahan reveals 49ers contract extensions were finalized before the season
Last week, the San Francisco 49ers announced they had signed head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch to multi-year contract extensions, keeping the team's brain trust together for the foreseeable future. However, Shanahan revealed that the deals had been finalized for a while.
"We did it before the Pittsburgh game (Week 1), so I had already celebrated with my family and stuff like that, which is huge," Shanahan told reporters on Wednesday. "I feel very grateful just being a coach anywhere for a long time. I know what that means, and I'm extremely grateful for that, to have that opportunity, and mainly for my family to be somewhere for so long, which is cool."

Steve Wilks on 49ers defense: "I've never been around an elite group like this before"
Steve Wilks took over as the San Francisco 49ers defense coordinator after DeMeco Ryans departed to be the head coach of the Houston Texans. The unit was the top-ranked defense last season, so Wilks was tasked with continuing what worked well but putting his stamp on it.

While his players have been impressed with Wilks as a coach, Wilks has been equally impressed with those he is coaching. And it's not just because of the on-field talent level.
"So, I told you guys back in the spring, I've never been around an elite group like this before," Wilks said on Thursday. "And it's not just so much the talent; it's about how we work.

The San Francisco 49ers improved to 4-0 with a 35-16 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, primarily due to a phenomenal offensive performance where Brock Purdy and Co. scored touchdowns on five of the team's six drives during the game.
Additionally, the defense did just enough, with Javon Hargrave securing the 49ers the win with a crucial third down sack to thwart the Cardinals' offensive momentum, to which the offense responded with consecutive touchdown drives.
However, after the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan was transparent about the 49ers' defense, sharing his belief that they had some ups and downs.
"I thought they had a couple lapses," Shanahan said. "They started out real strong. We had that missed kickoff, I think they got them at the 40,
