The San Francisco 49ers will open the 2012 preseason against the Minnesota Vikings at home. The will also face the Denver Broncos during week 3, which will be a nationally televised game.

Kyle Shanahan optimistic about NFL season, glad preseason was canceled

The new ramp-up schedule for training camp didn't leave room for preseason games. Players won't even put on pads until the 20th day of camp. It was hard to imagine finding the time to play one or two games, especially when those exhibition matchups don't count for anything other than player evaluation. San Francisco 49ers cornerback Emmanuel Moseley wasn't drafted, so he had to fight harder to prove himself during his rookie offseason in 2018. The hard work earned him a spot on the team's practice squad, and he was eventually promoted to the active roster for a game against the Oakland Raiders. But a shoulder injury landed him on injured reserve. Moseley earned a spot on the 53-man roster last year, thanks to a strong offseason and preseason.
