The sports world lost an icon on Tuesday. Legendary sports broadcaster Vin Scully died at the age of 94.
Scully, best known as the long-time voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers, also called other sports during his illustrious career. That includes one game remembered by Bay Area fans as the greatest moment in San Francisco 49ers history. Scully and Hank Stram called the 1981 NFC Championship Game for CBS, a matchup between the 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys.
Scully is the voice heard in replays of "The Catch," the throw from quarterback Joe Montana to wide receiver Dwight Clark, launching a

Will the 49ers sign a veteran center? Will they move Deebo Samuel to tight end? And other mailbag questions answered

On Monday, the San Francisco 49ers began padded practices. The contract extension for Deebo Samuel was also announced. It's a fun time of the year, as the team prepares to make another run for a sixth Super Bowl championship.
We opened up the 49ers mailbag and had plenty of questions to choose from. Let's respond to a handful:
Diana Kayatani: There's talk about Jimmy possibly going to the Seahawks. If and when he leaves, where should he go?
Felix Watkins: Where do you think Jimmy is going?
The world awaits news on Jimmy Garoppolo. Will he be traded or released? Where will he go? Will he be a starter or a backup? How does he get his hair to look so nice?
I wish we already had the answer to those questions. The good

Naming the best player in the NFL can create much discussion and debate. If you ask San Francisco 49ers defenders, the answer isn't too difficult. Take Dre Greenlaw, for instance. Greenlaw was recently asked about going against nine-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Trent Williams in practice. The first words out of the fourth-year linebacker's mouth prove how much his teammates respect Williams.
"Trent's the best player in the NFL, for sure. No doubt," Greenlaw told reporters on Monday. "In that regard, you better know your leverage. If you've got a guy like Trent coming at you, you better know if you're supposed to be inside of him or outside of him because if you go down the middle, he going to flatten you."
That's the best player in the NFL. The entire

49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk physically and mentally prepared for breakout season
By David Bonilla

"I'm in a whole other place [compared to last season]," quarterback Trey Lance said on KNBR after Friday's practice. "I can't even imagine going back to last year. But yeah, everything has definitely slowed down."
Lance isn't the only San Francisco 49ers player who has made mental leaps this offseason. Brandon Aiyuk has draw consistent praise from his teammates, with many saying the third-year wideout is having an amazing training camp.
Aiyuk also joined KNBR on Friday. He was asked to discuss his progress compared to last year.
"Last year was my first real training camp (COVID limited things in 2020)," Aiyuk shared, "so being able to
