Why John Lynch and DeMeco Ryans believe Azeez Al-Shaair is the 49ers' most-improved defender

By Rohan Chakravarthi
Dec 3

When referencing the San Francisco 49ers linebackers during the offseason, the main spotlights were All-Pro Fred Warner and his coverage sidekick, Dre Greenlaw. Greenlaw is most known for his magnificent stop of Jacob Hollister at the 1-yard line to clinch the NFC West title in Week 17 of the 2019 NFL season. But, after Greenlaw went down at the beginning of the season with a groin injury, Azeez Al-Shaair, who went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft, stepped up with a major opportunity and hasn't looked back. Recently, I placed Al-Shaair as essentially the sixth-most valuable player on this 49ers football team this season, and the third-most valuable defender, behind just Nick Bosa and Emmanuel

Former hard-hitting NFL safety John Lynch, now the general manager of the San Francisco 49ers, was presented his Hall of Fame ring and honored at Raymond James Stadium during halftime of Monday night's game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Giants. Lynch was inducted as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2021, rewarding his career with the Buccaneers and Denver Broncos. The nine-time Pro Bowl selection, four-time All-Pro, and Super Bowl XXXVII champion played 15 combined NFL seasons and amassed 1,051 combined tackles, 26 interceptions, 13 sacks, and 16 forced fumbles, per ESPN statistics. On Sunday, Lynch was at TIAA Bank Field to watch his 49ers beat

John Lynch says Frank Gore loves 49ers' Deebo Samuel as a running back

On Wednesday morning, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch joined KNBR. A former NFL running back and 49ers fan favorite, Frank Gore, was with Lynch in team CEO Jed York's suite this past Sunday during the team's 30-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. He remains close with the York family and continues to be a big fan of his former organization. Gore was treated to watching a 79-yard, one-touchdown rushing performance from Deebo Samuel — a wide receiver. That came on just eight attempts, meaning the receiver averaged nearly 10 yards per carry. Gore believes Samuel is so impressive that the third-year wideout is good enough to be a great running back. "He loves Deebo as a running back," Lynch said. "He probably feels that if we

Why Nick Bosa's mindset during ACL recovery impressed 49ers GM John Lynch

By David Bonilla

If you ask Nick Bosa, he'll tell you that he's even better than he was before his devastating ACL injury last season. The San Francisco 49ers pass rusher is proving it this season. He has already surpassed his previous career-high nine sacks during his 2019 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year campaign. Bosa's 10 sacks this season are tied for the fifth-most in the league, and the 49ers defender is the only player with 10-or-more sacks and 15 tackles for a loss. "I think I've definitely improved a lot," Bosa said on Sunday. "I think I'm starting to get the hang of just how to really get sacks, get numbers. My rookie year, I was just out there rushing, trying to win every time. It worked
