San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York can return to the team after serving his six-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. The league announced the suspension and a $500,000 fine on October 2. The fine was the maximum single-action penalty the NFL commissioner can impose on an owner.
York was arrested on August 23 in East Palestine, Ohio, following an undercover investigation by the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.
According to reports, York responded to an online advertisement posted by an undercover officer and exchanged messages with the person over two days. He agreed to pay $160 for what he believed would be sexual activity. York then traveled to a mobile home park in East Palestine, where police arrested him upon his arrival.
York had already missed the first three games of the season when the NFL announced his punishment. That time counted toward his suspension.
"This was an inexcusable mistake and I take full responsibility," York said via a statement. "What I did does not reflect my values or the man I strive to be for my family."
He added, "Leading the 49ers is a privilege, and one I don't take lightly. Your trust will have to be earned back over time, and I look forward to that work ahead."
During York's absence, the 49ers have won six consecutive games, improving to 6-0 with a 23-17 victory over the Washington Commanders on Monday night.
