Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne has made it clear: he wants to return to the San Francisco 49ers for the 2026 NFL season.
Bourne is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent next month after spending one season back in the Bay Area. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the veteran receiver didn't hesitate when discussing his offseason hopes.
"I want to go back to San Fran, so that's the plan, but it's all got to make sense," Bourne said.
Bourne originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the 49ers in 2017. He spent his first four seasons with the team before signing with the New England Patriots in 2021. After four years in New England, Bourne returned to the 49ers on a one-year deal signed September 9, 2025.
In 2025, Bourne recorded 37 receptions for 551 yards, proving he can still contribute in key moments. He delivered back-to-back 142-yard receiving performances in Weeks 5 and 6, showcasing his ability to step up when needed.
Last week, Bourne reiterated his desire to stay in San Francisco during an interview with former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman, suggesting there is mutual interest.
"I'm trying to come back," Bourne said. "I talk to Kyle—you know Kyle—got a good relationship with him. We had a good exit meeting, so I'm trying to make it happen. That's always the goal. San Francisco is home. And so, coming back, having a good year was powerful.
"So I'm trying to run it back. Money talks, but that's just definitely home, so that's holding a special place in my heart."
Bourne is preparing to enter his 10th NFL season. He has amassed 329 catches for 4,265 yards and 22 touchdowns over his career. Whether the 49ers and Bourne can agree on a deal remains to be seen, but the veteran player has left no doubt about where he hopes to be in 2026.
