The Miami Dolphins are searching for a new general manager and have requested interviews with three San Francisco 49ers executives serving under general manager John Lynch: vice president of player personnel Tariq Ahmad, director of scouting and football operations Josh Williams, and assistant general manager RJ Gillen.
Williams was a finalist for the Jacksonville Jaguars' general manager position last offseason before the team ultimately hired James Gladstone. He has spent 15 seasons with the 49ers, joining the organization in 2011 as a scouting assistant and steadily rising through the front office ranks.
Ahmad joined the 49ers in 2014 as an assistant in the scouting department and has since built an extensive résumé within the organization. His progression includes roles as an area scout, assistant director of college scouting, director of college scouting, and director of player personnel, culminating in his current position as vice president of player personnel.
Gillen has been with the 49ers since 2015, beginning as an assistant in the scouting department. He also previously served as a pro personnel scout, director of pro personnel, and director of player personnel before moving into his current role. This past season marked Gillen's first as an assistant general manager, a title he shares with Brian Hampton.
