The San Francisco 49ers are expected to pursue a veteran wide receiver in free agency, especially with Brandon Aiyuk's time in the Bay Area appearing to wind down. But head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch may also use the 2026 NFL Draft to add another weapon for quarterback Brock Purdy and boost the 49ers offense.
In his latest 2026 NFL mock draft, Pro Football Focus analyst Dalton Wasserman projects the 49ers selecting Texas A&M wide receiver KC Concepcion with the No. 29 overall pick.
"The 49ers rank an uncharacteristically low 28th in yards after catch per completion this season," Wasserman wrote. "One player who could add an element of explosiveness to the offense is Texas A&M's KC Concepcion."
Concepcion totaled 919 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 2025, adding 75 rushing yards and a score on 10 carries, per Sports Reference. His versatile skill set was on display in 2023 at NC State, when he produced 1,159 scrimmage yards, including 320 rushing yards on 41 attempts—a trait that may appeal to Shanahan.
However, Wasserman points to Concepcion's yards-after-catch ability as the primary reason he fits the 49ers' offensive needs.
"Concepcion earned an 81.2 PFF receiving grade while totaling 440 yards after the catch this season, both of which rank among the top 30 marks for FBS wide receivers," Wasserman noted.
The 49ers last drafted a wide receiver in Round 1 when they selected Ricky Pearsall No. 31 overall in 2024. In 2025, San Francisco added two more receivers: Jordan Watkins in the fourth round and Junior Bergen in the seventh.
Watkins has recorded just two catches for 26 yards this season, while Bergen has spent the year on the practice squad.
