The NFL trade deadline has come and gone, and the San Francisco 49ers opted not to make any additional moves to bolster their roster. The acquisition of defensive end Keion White from the New England Patriots last week stands as their only in-season trade.
The 49ers were among the teams expected to be more active ahead of the deadline, given that injuries have severely impacted their roster. The defense alone has its two best players for the season—linebacker Fred Warner (ankle) and defensive end Nick Bosa (ACL).
Rookie Mykel Williams, who was expected to help fill the void left by Bosa, also suffered a torn ACL during Sunday's win over the New York Giants, ending his season. Additionally, Yetur Gross-Matos recently landed on injured reserve.
To reinforce their defensive front, the 49ers traded for White and signed Clelin Ferrell to the practice squad, hoping to improve a struggling pass rush.
When asked on Monday whether Williams' injury created more urgency to make a trade, head coach Kyle Shanahan said, "No, that hasn't changed anything. I know those guys are working around the clock on just any possibilities and stuff, as they do every single year. But no, this happening hasn't changed anything."
Now sitting at 6-3, the 49ers look to keep their momentum going as they prepare for a key NFC West showdown against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at Levi's Stadium.
