San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan held a conference call with reporters on Monday morning, the day after the team's first loss of the season—a 26-21 defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars. During the call, Shanahan offered several key injury updates.
Quarterback Brock Purdy reported soreness in his toe on Monday.
"He didn't indicate it to me at all during the game," Shanahan explained. "I talked to him on the phone last night, and he said it was starting to bother him a little bit last night. But nothing during the game at all."
Purdy had already missed two games with the same toe injury before being cleared to play in Week 4 against Jacksonville.
Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall left Sunday's matchup with a knee issue. Shanahan said the team believes the second-year receiver may have suffered a "minor PCL" injury but doesn't expect it to be significant.
"Hopefully, it won't be too bad," Shanahan said. "Obviously, a huge concern with the Thursday night game and stuff, but we're not expecting it to be too bad. But we've got to find out later today."
With a short turnaround before Thursday night's divisional clash against the Los Angeles Rams, even a minor setback could impact any player's availability.
"Hopefully, we'll find out more later today," Shanahan said of the injuries. "But anytime guys are sore and hurting on a Monday, you usually don't stress too much about it. But anytime you have a Thursday game, it's a totally different element. So, I'm concerned with anybody who's not totally healthy at this moment, but we'll have to get more information on that later today to really kind of have a clue of what to speculate."
Meanwhile, wide receiver Jauan Jennings' status for Week 5 is up in the air after exiting in the third quarter with a rib injury.
Cornerback Renardo Green missed Sunday's game due to a neck injury. Is the contest against the Rams in question, too?
"I hope not," Shanahan said. "We've got to see how he feels. We'll see how he feels later today and throughout the week. So hopefully, it'll get better and he can go."
Looking longer-term, Shanahan noted that the 49ers hope to have safety Malik Mustapha return to practice after Week 6. Mustapha started the season on the physically unable to perform list as he continues to recover from the ACL injury sustained in last season's finale.
