San Francisco 49ers first-round pick Mykel Williams sat out Tuesday's practice due to what the team described as a "minor ankle" injury. The update suggests there's no long-term concern, but the rookie defensive end's status will be monitored closely as training camp progresses.

Williams is part of a completely revamped defensive front that includes fellow rookies Alfred Collins, a second-round draft pick, and CJ West, a fourth-round pick.
The 49ers also traded for veteran pass rusher Bryce Huff. Nick Bosa remains the only holdover starter from last season's defensive line.
Left tackle Trent Williams recently admitted that Mykel Williams is a handful to deal with in practice.
"Mykel's a huge dude," Trent Williams noted. "You generally don't see guys that size on the edge. It sucks having to base block guys with arms as long as your legs. I think he has a chance to be a really good player in this NFL. I think he has a chance to be dominant."
In addition to Mykel Williams' absence, wide receiver Ricky Pearsall did not participate on Tuesday. The team granted him a rest day after he returned from a hamstring injury on Sunday.
