In May, quarterback Brock Purdy became the highest-paid player in San Francisco 49ers history after signing a five-year, $265 million contract extension. However, he doesn't yet carry the team's largest salary cap hit. As it stands, Purdy ranks seventh on the 49ers' roster in 2025 cap hits.
Despite his lucrative contract extension, Purdy's 2025 cap hit is just $9.12 million, making him a relative bargain for a franchise quarterback. That figure ranks 25th among all NFL signal-callers this year, but is set to rise significantly in future seasons.
According to Over The Cap and Spotrac, Purdy's cap number jumps to $24.8 million in 2026 and $30.8 million in 2027, ranking third on the team in each of those seasons. He won't lead the roster in cap impact until 2028, when his hit spikes to $57.6 million.
For now, left tackle Trent Williams leads the team with a cap hit of $21.14 million, followed closely by defensive end Nick Bosa at $20.43 million.
Linebacker Fred Warner, who also signed an extension this offseason, ranks third at $16.06 million. Tight end George Kittle, another recently extended core piece, ranks fourth with a $14.21 million hit.
Here's a breakdown of the 49ers' top 10 cap hits for the 2025 season, per Over The Cap:
- LT Trent Williams - $21,141,955
- DE Nick Bosa - $20,430,870
- LB Fred Warner - $16,058,000
- TE George Kittle - $14,211,842
- WR Brandon Aiyuk - $9,917,105
- DE Yetur Gross-Matos - $9,473,000
- QB Brock Purdy - $9,119,253
- RB Christian McCaffrey - $8,369,119
- DE Bryce Huff - $7,700,000
- CB Deommodore Lenoir - $5,831,765
While Purdy's payday is historic, the structure of his contract allows the 49ers to remain financially flexible in the early years of the deal. The higher impact in later years will likely be offset by the always-rising salary cap limit, which is expected to reach at least $300 million in 2026.
