While San Francisco 49ers fans—like many NFL fans across the nation—struggled to choose a side in Sunday's Super Bowl LIX matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, Deebo Samuel had no such dilemma. The 49ers wide receiver made it clear that he would be rooting for his friend, Eagles wideout A.J. Brown.
Samuel even showed up in New Orleans during Super Bowl week wearing Brown's jersey, signaling his strong support for the Eagles star.
After the Eagles' dominant 40-22 victory over the Chiefs, Samuel quickly congratulated Brown. A portion of their FaceTime conversation was captured and shared on Instagram.

Meanwhile, Samuel made headlines Sunday morning with news that he had requested a trade during exit interviews following the season. The situation became even more intriguing when reports revealed that the 49ers had permitted Samuel to seek a trade.
Though there are financial obstacles—trading Samuel before June 1 would significantly impact the 49ers' salary cap—the reports suggest Samuel is determined to leave, and the 49ers are at least open to exploring the possibility.
Coming off one of his least productive seasons, Samuel tallied just 806 scrimmage yards and four total touchdowns—his lowest totals since an injury-riddled 2020 campaign. As he enters the final year of his contract, Samuel is slated to count about $15.87 million against the salary cap.
