Trent Williams did not practice this past week, casting doubt on his availability for the San Francisco 49ers' Week 12 clash with the Green Bay Packers. The veteran offensive lineman has been nursing an ankle injury and was officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Lambeau Field.
However, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the 49ers are optimistic that Williams will be able to play. His presence would provide a significant boost to an offense already dealing with the absence of starting quarterback Brock Purdy.
Schefter noted that the team will assess Williams during pregame warmups before making a final decision on his game status.
"If Williams is deemed fit to play, it would be welcome news for veteran quarterback Brandon Allen, who will make his first start in more than two years in place of the injured Brock Purdy," ESPN reported.
Purdy isn't the only 49ers player ruled out for the Sunday contest. Defensive end Nick Bosa (hip, oblique), wide receiver Jacob Cowing (concussion), defensive tackle Kevin Givens (groin), and cornerback Charvarius Ward (personal matter) will also miss the game.
The 49ers, sitting at 5-5, are fighting to turn their season around and claw back into the playoff race. A win against the Packers could help them gain momentum during a pivotal stretch of the season.
