Bryant Johnson likely gone?

Jan 12, 2009 at 8:23 AM

According to Pro Football Weekly on Saturday, San Francisco wide receiver Bryant Johnson may be the odd man out for the 49ers. The site had this to say:

Our Niners sources tell us that, due to the presence of promising, young WRs Josh Morgan, Jason Hill and Dominique Zeigler, free agent Bryant Johnson's days could be numbered in San Francisco. "And don't forget Arnaz Battle (who ended the season on injured reserve)," added a team insider. "Every year it seems they try to count him out, and every year he keeps coming back for more."

The San Francisco 49ers are eager to sign Brandon Aiyuk to a long-term deal, believing he can continue to be a number-one receiver and a focal point in an offense filled with playmakers. However, the negotiations aren't progressing as smoothly as both sides had hoped. Aiyuk didn't report to the 49ers' mandatory minicamp this week, subjecting himself to possible fines. While the 49ers were confident early on, given their successful track record, that a deal would be reached, the two sides reportedly remain far apart in negotiations. Last week, Michael Silver of the San Francisco

How George Kittle responded to a question about 49ers' Super Bowl strategy

By David Bonilla
Jun 11

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle joined the "Dan Patrick Show" and was asked a question he had not encountered before: What would he change about the strategy the 49ers deployed in their Super Bowl loss against the Kansas City Chiefs? Kittle didn't immediately have an answer. However, after reflecting on the game, he prioritized better ball protection, feeling that might have made the difference. The fumble by running back Christian McCaffrey during the opening drive is the one play that sticks out in the tight end's mind. "I think if we could [avoid] that turnover, I think that's a difference," Kittle stated. It's worth noting that Kittle had an opportunity to recover the fumble, which would have kept the football in the 49ers'
