Both Pearsall and the suspect, who was immediately apprehended, were shot in the altercation.
Shortly after the incident, the 49ers released a statement saying Pearsall was "in serious but stable condition."
On Sunday morning, the player's mother, Erin Pearsall, provided an update on Facebook: "He was shot in the chest and it exited out his back. Thanks be to GOD it missed his vital organs."
The 49ers selected Pearsall out of Florida with the No. 31 overall pick. The wide receiver had been impressive during the offseason but suffered a setback due to a shoulder subluxation, a partial dislocation, forcing him to miss much of training camp and the entire preseason. He returned to practice last week.
Just hours before the shooting, Pearsall had been signing autographs at an event at the Cow Palace in Daly City.
