Ricky Pearsall reported to the San Francisco 49ers last week along with the rest of his rookie teammates. The team immediately placed the wide receiver on the active/non-football injury (NFI) list. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch addressed reporters today as the 49ers officially kicked off training camp ahead of their 2024 campaign, shedding light on Pearsall's injury.
Lynch stated that Pearsall is dealing with a hamstring injury sustained away from the team and remains on the NFI list. The general manager stated that Pearsall would miss the first four days of practice.
Pearsall participated in the 49ers' mandatory minicamp last month but wore a blue non-contact jersey, indicating he was working through an issue. At the time, Shanahan explained that Pearsall was experiencing "a little soreness" left over from organized team activities (OTAs) and that the jersey was a precautionary measure.
San Francisco selected Pearsall with their first-round pick, No. 31 overall, and the rookie impressed during the team's offseason program. While the 49ers hope he can be an immediate contributor, Pearsall is part of a talented wide receiver room that will present a challenge for him to climb the depth chart.
