Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team reports that the San Francisco 49ers are expected to re-sign linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles to a one-year deal. He is currently an unrestricted free agent.

The move comes after the 49ers nearly signed linebacker Eric Kendricks as insurance in case Dre Greenlaw missed significant time after suffering a torn Achilles in last month's Super Bowl. However, Kendricks backed out of the deal, opting to sign with the Dallas Cowboys instead.

Oren Burks is the other 49ers linebacker who remains a free agent.

San Francisco signed Flannigan-Fowles (6-2, 223) as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona in 2019. He registered 19 tackles, including four for a loss, and a pass defensed through 16 game appearances (one start) with the 49ers this past season, per Pro Football Reference.

Flannigan-Fowles, 27, has recorded 79 tackles, five tackles for a loss, a quarterback hit, a sack, and a pass defensed in 61 game appearances (four starts) through his five NFL seasons. Although, he spent his entire rookie season on the 49ers' practice squad.
