The San Francisco 49ers are set to hit the practice field today for their first of three sessions this week leading to Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the Detroit Lions. The primary injury concern revolves around wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who exited this past weekend's playoff game against the Green Bay Packers with a shoulder injury and did not return.
Fortunately, tests revealed that Samuel did not sustain any broken bones, in contrast to his injury from Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns when he suffered a hairline fracture in his shoulder. The bad news is that the star player still appears to be grappling with the pain.
"He's still in a lot of pain, still struggling to get full movement in his shoulder," Ian Rapoport stated this morning on NFL Network. "He did rehab right after the injury, like that night, so really started the road to recovery immediately."
Rapoport added, "We'll get more information on his status today based on whether or not he's able to practice. If he can practice today, we figure he can play in the game on Sunday."
Head coach Kyle Shanahan is scheduled to address the media around 11:35 a.m. PT, before the team's 1:25 p.m. PT practice.
