The San Francisco 49ers announced that their new defensive end, Chase Young, will don the No. 92 jersey with the team. He wore No. 99 during his tenure with the Washington Commanders, but that number is unavailable with the 49ers. Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw currently wears No. 99.
Both Young and Kinlaw are slated to become free agents after this season. The 49ers shared the following video of Young suited up with his new teammates for the first time.
The 49ers acquired Young in a trade with the Commanders, exchanging a 2024 compensatory draft pick for the talented defensive end. Should Young decide to move on from the 49ers after this season, the team stands to receive a 2025 third-round compensatory draft pick.
Boasting five sacks this season, Young instantly became the 49ers' sack leader. No other defender on the team has secured more than three sacks, with Nick Bosa, Javon Hargrave, and Drake Jackson each contributing three apiece.
