This week's focus remains on San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. The team has a short week to prepare for its next opponent—the New York Giants on Thursday night at Levi's Stadium. The matchup comes just four days after the Niners' 30-23 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Aiyuk suffered a shoulder injury on his first catch, a 13-yard reception during San Francisco's opening drive. He was in and out of the lineup throughout the game and was limited during the 49ers' light Tuesday practice.

On Tuesday, head coach Kyle Shanahan said that the decision will come down to how Aiyuk feels and the evaluation from the training staff. It sounds like the receiver may end up being a game-time decision.

"I think, with Brandon, with these Thursday night games, they're a quick turnaround," general manager John Lynch said Wednesday during an interview on KNBR's "Murph and Mac" show. "So he clearly got something irritated in his chest/shoulder area. He's working really hard to try to get ready. And with these Thursday night games, you take it all the way down there. You don't have to make your inactives until Thursday.

"So Brandon's working really hard. He's a warrior. You can see it in his play. He's having fun because I think everything's starting to click for him. So I know he's a guy who doesn't want to miss [a game]. We clearly won't put him out there if it's not in his best interest, but I think that situation is very fluid."

The other injury the media is watching is that of Ambry Thomas. The cornerback is dealing with a knee injury, also sustained in Sunday's game.

"We're still working through it with him," Lynch said of Thomas. "Again, these guys, even the guys that are healthy, it's a quick turnaround getting your body ready for a Thursday night game. Ambry came out a little sore, was proud of his fight, went back in there late in the game.

"He's doing better. And again, he's a guy we'll see in the coming days if he's ready. It would help us to have him. Ambry's really made a big jump as a player, and we'd love to have him, but we just got to see if he can get there."

Christian McCaffrey emphasized status as "complete back" to 49ers

By David Bonilla
Nov 30

Christian McCaffrey wasn't certain about the San Francisco 49ers' intentions for him after a trade from the Carolina Panthers brought him to the Bay Area last year. He was always seen as a versatile player, someone just as dangerous catching the football as he was carrying it out of the backfield. Upon arriving in Santa Clara, McCaffrey approached his new coach, Kyle Shanahan, to ensure the 49ers knew he was a "complete" running back, unafraid of a hefty workload. Shanahan must have heard McCaffrey loud and clear. The running back is on pace for nearly 300 carries this season, which would be the most of his career, and has racked up an NFL-leading 939 rushing yards through 11 games. Reflecting on that initial conversation with his coach, McCaffrey

How John Lynch's input shaped 49ers' defensive strategy against DK Metcalf

By David Bonilla
Dec 1

The San Francisco 49ers faced a tight schedule leading up to their Thursday night NFC West clash with the Seattle Seahawks. Despite the challenges, the defense successfully contained Seattle's main offensive threat, wide receiver DK Metcalf, limiting him to three catches for 32 yards on nine targets while primarily covered by cornerback Charvarius Ward. Ward's impressive performance held the 6-foot-4 wideout in check, allowing only one catch for 14 yards when matched against him. After the 31-13 victory, Ward revealed that the initial game plan didn't have him concentrating so heavily on Metcalf. This adjustment came late, but Ward embraced the
