San Francisco 49ers quarterback
Brock Purdy wasn't perfect on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, yet the team was talented and disciplined enough to beat its division rivals 30-23.
Purdy had arguably his worst game as a starter. The second-year quarterback earned an
overall Pro Football Focus grade of 65.1, his lowest regular-season mark since Week 13 of 2022. He finished the game 17-of-25 for 206 yards and a passer rating of 93.1, a new regular-season career-low as a starter. The stat line might have been better had Purdy connected on a few passes to open receivers that were overthrown.
After the game, when asked about the offense's shortcomings against the Rams, Purdy pointed to himself as part of the problem.
"
Yeah, in my eyes, there's a couple opportunities obviously out there that I missed in terms of the deep ball and whatnot," Purdy said. "But (we) found a way to win."
The quarterback added, "I just overthrew them -- the one to [
Brandon Aiyuk], the one to Deebo [Samuel], and then [
Jauan Jennings] on that third down. Those are on me. I've got to be better. I've got to hit them in stride and not overthrow them. Simple as that."
One of those receivers joined Kay Adams during FanDuel's "Up & Adams" show and shared that Purdy's accountability is one of the reasons why his 49ers teammates love him.
"He don't make excuses,"
Deebo Samuel told Adams. "He takes full responsibility for his mistakes even though—we was talking about it on the sideline, and we want to have those, but there's nothing we can do about it. So I think that's why we love Brock in this offense as a leader of this team.
"That's why he's got the [team] captain [patch] on his shirt because it's little things like that. People try to blame somebody else or try to blame something else on it, but he took full responsibility.
"That's what practice is for. We practice that all the time. Everything is not going to be perfect but at the end of the day, we got the win, and we'll be able to move on."

49ers Notebook: Deebo Samuel backs up the smack; Brock Purdy returns to scene of injury; Jauan Jennings beats his favorite team
It's not often that a player can back up copious amounts of trash talk the way Deebo Samuel did against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, but that's exactly what happened during the critical beatdown the 49ers unleashed on the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.
Samuel was among multiple 49ers players who expressed confidence over the offseason that the result in last season's NFC Championship game, won 31-7 by the Eagles, would have been different had quarterback Brock Purdy not suffered a season-ending elbow injury during the contest. No one was more vocal on that front than Samuel, who said things like "We lost because we played with ten people" while adding that the
Deebo Samuel declares 49ers' Brock Purdy the top MVP candidate: "It ain't even up for debate"
Following Sunday's decisive 42-19 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, there is a lot of chatter surrounding Brock Purdy's chances of winning the NFL MVP award. Oddsmakers currently favor the San Francisco 49ers quarterback for the coveted annual honor.
Purdy played a pivotal role in helping his teammate, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, amass impressive numbers against the Eagles. Samuel hauled in four receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns. He also contributed on the ground, gaining 22 yards and scoring a rushing touchdown.
Purdy completed 19 of his 27 passing attempts for 314 yards and four touchdowns, finishing with a 148.8 passer rating against the Eagles.

Why Baldy sees 49ers QB Brock Purdy as a legitimate MVP candidate
NFL analyst Brian Baldinger asserts that Brock Purdy is a legitimate contender for the NFL MVP award. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback has been playing at an elite level, leading the league in several statistical categories, including completion percentage (70.2), touchdown percentage (6.9), yards per attempt (9.6), yards gained per completion (13.7), and passer rating (116.1).
"If Brock Purdy keeps playing like this, I think Brock Purdy is the MVP," Baldinger said Tuesday morning on 95.7 The Game's "The Morning Roast" show.
While acknowledging that the 49ers are a perfect fit for Purdy, Baldinger dismisses the notion that San Francisco's talented roster and head coach Kyle Shanahan's system are solely responsible for Purdy's success.

Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk weigh in on 49ers-Eagles showdown
The eagerly awaited Week 13 clash between the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles is on the horizon. Following a Thanksgiving roasting of the Seattle Seahawks, the 49ers returned to the field on Monday for a bonus practice, gearing up for the NFC Championship Game rematch.
Wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk addressed reporters after practice, downplaying the emotional significance of Sunday's showdown between NFC powerhouses. Both players, vocal about their disappointment after last season's devastating defeat, had previously suggested that the better team failed to come out on top.
Regarding the upcoming rematch, Samuel told reporters,
