Day 9 of the San Francisco 49ers training camp is officially over, as it was a light practice, with the energy level lowered after a long practice on Friday, with Brock Purdy taking a rest day, allowing Trey Lance and Sam Darnold to work with the first-team offense.

It was an underwhelming start for the quarterbacks, but Trey Lance finished strong, ending with a deep touchdown pass to Willie Snead on an incredible catch for a touchdown.

Full Breakdown of Day 9

For a full breakdown of Day 9, listen to our podcast recapping every detail I saw during Day 9 of training camp, from the quarterbacks to standout players to those to keep an eye out for and more.

49ers QBs on Day 9

With Brock Purdy taking a rest day, Trey Lance, Sam Darnold, and Brandon Allen led the charge on Day 9 of 49ers training camp.

Lance and Darnold were seeing working under center, making passes after a five-step dropback.

Additionally, the quarterbacks repped the quick game out of the shotgun, which was on display during team drills throughout the day.

An area of concern had been the passes off play-action rollouts, so it made sense the 49ers' quarterbacks repped that drill on Saturday.

Rookie Hype Machine

Two 49ers' draftees, third-rounder Ji'Ayir Brown and fifth-rounder Darrell Luter Jr., were seen as the Rookie Hype Machine on Saturday.

From Yesterday

49ers Top DBs

The 49ers' top defensive backs, Charvarius Ward, Deommodore Lenoir, Talanoa Hufanga, and Tashaun Gipson, all did a certain drill together for the first time on Friday, working individually while the rest of the group repped special teams.

49ers LBs

Linebackers coach Johnny Holland was filmed coaching up Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw, and company in a position group drill.

Later on, they were seen doing a drill focused on backpedaling before locating the ball for an interception.

Footwork

The 49ers' DBs were filmed focusing on footwork in a drill conducted by defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.

"Thank God for Mr. Irrelevant": John Lynch reflects on 49ers drafting Trey Lance

By David Bonilla
Apr 22

The decision to trade up in the 2021 NFL Draft and select quarterback Trey Lance could have had significant consequences for general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan. With the team lacking first-round picks in the last two drafts due to this move, and Lance no longer on the roster after being traded to the Dallas Cowboys before last season, it's clear the gamble didn't unfold as expected. Lynch held his annual pre-draft press conference on Monday, reflecting on the decision to take such a big chance on Lance. While such a bold move might have jeopardized jobs elsewhere, Lynch and Shanahan were blessed with some good fortune in the 2022 NFL Draft. Acknowledging the support of the team's ownership, Lynch stated, "They believe in Kyle and I, and our

What experts predict the 49ers to do in Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft

By David Bonilla
Apr 26

The selection of former Florida wide receiver Ricky Pearsall came as a surprise to most. There were plenty of surprises in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, with several teams deviating from projections in mock drafts. Undeterred, a couple of analysts have put together their projections for Day 2 of the draft following the aftermath of the first round. Dane Brugler of The Athletic believes the 49ers will use the second-round pick, No. 63 overall, to bolster their defense. He projects former Georgia cornerback Kamari Lassiter to join San Francisco with the selection. "Although his stat sheet and tape don't scream

John Lynch discusses draft strategy following Day 1; Kyle Shanahan jokes about 49ers' past misses

By David Bonilla
Apr 26

Shortly after the San Francisco 49ers finalized their selection of former Florida wide receiver Ricky Pearsall in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan shared insights with Bay Area radio station KNBR. Reflecting on Day 1's events, Lynch was questioned about the team's approach for the remaining six rounds. "Well, we will see," Lynch responded thoughtfully, trying not to reveal too much. "We'll get a good sleep right now. We'll wake up. Tomorrow will be a busy day and a fun day. We've got a lot of picks. We just got to make them count; all of them count." San Francisco has nine more draft picks, barring any trades. The team's next pick is currently the 63rd overall selection toward the end of the second
