Mock draft: 49ers address several needs with 11 picks

Apr 19, 2023 at 4:00 PM--

One great thing about being a football fan at this time of the year is reading up on NFL mock drafts from fellow writers and contemporaries. This year's draft should focus more on depth because the San Francisco 49ers do not have glaring holes on their roster.

The Niners may want to address offensive tackle and outside-linebacker since Mike McGlinchey left for Denver and Al-Shaair Azeez is now in Tennessee. In addition, San Francisco will look to add another tight end to their roster just in case George Kittle gets hurt. Adding depth in the secondary would help.

I will not predict trades or player movements for my first mock draft. Instead, I will project who the 49ers might draft at their current slots. The NFL Draft will be held from April 27-29, but the 49ers must wait until day two to make their first pick.

3rd Round, Overall Pick 99 - (Comp Pick) Blake Freeland, Offensive Tackle, BYU

3rd Round, Pick 101 - (Comp Pick) Henry To'oto'o, Linebacker, Alabama

3rd Round, Pick 102 - Tucker Kraft, Tight End, South Dakota State

5th Round, Pick 155 - (From Miami) Hunter Luepke, FB, North Dakota State

5th Round, Pick 164 - Johnathan Mingo, Wide Receiver, Ole Miss

5th Round, Pick 173 (Comp pick) - Cameron Brown, Cornerback, Ohio State

6th Round, Pick 216 (Comp pick) - Brodric Martin, Defensive Tackle, Western Kentucky University

7th Round, Pick 222 (from Denver) - Frederick "Juice" Scruggs, Center, Penn State

7th round, Pick 247 - Yasir Abdullah, Linebacker, Louisville

7th round, Pick 253 (Comp pick) - Asim Richards, Offensive Tackle, North Carolina

7th round, Pick 255 (Comp pick) - Chamarri Conner, Safety, Virginia Tech

Sports has been my first love since I was 12 years old. At one point I wanted to play football professionally. I started to take photography as a hobby in my teenage years but this was when I followed sports. I started to listen to sports radio, I found my true calling and it was to be a sports talk show host. Though I follow football and basketball, I started to have a new love of cultures around the world. After graduating from San Antonio College in 2018, I worked for the Castroville News Bulletin before going to A&M San Antonio to get my communications degree. Since I have written for the Ranger of San Antonio College, the News Bulletin and the Mesquite of Texas A&M San Antonio, I met many people and went to a lot of events. My major milestone was being in the press box of the San Antonio Commanders game for the Mesquite and being apart of a press conference with the Medina County Sheriff and other local news outlets. When I am not doing anything, I like to watch old cartoons on the DC Universe, play video games such as Mega Man and the Mass Effect series. I have also created Youtube channel called "Anger Management" with my friend Aaron Donnell.

Daniel Jeremiah explains why 49ers could still address pass rush in NFL Draft

By David Bonilla

Mock drafts will never please everyone, especially when they solely focus on the first 32 selections without offering perspective on what might come beyond the first round. Regarding the San Francisco 49ers, analyst Daniel Jeremiah's latest mock draft was no different. He projected former Penn State pass rusher Chop Robinson to join the Bay Area team. Why the skepticism from fans? The 49ers' free agency focus has been on revamping their defensive front. After allowing Arik Armstead, Chase Young, and others to depart for other organizations, the team addressed last season's inconsistent play by adding defensive ends Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos, trading for defensive tackle Maliek

With the initial flurry of free agency in the books, respected draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah unveiled his latest mock draft, projecting teams' potential moves in the 2024 NFL Draft. While many fans questioned ESPN analyst Mel Kiper projecting Washington offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten to the 49ers with the No. 31 overall pick, Jeremiah's choice for the Bay Area team may receive a warmer reception. Despite the Niners adding defensive ends via free agency, Jeremiah has San Francisco using their first-round pick to add former Penn State pass rusher Chop
