49ers re-signing DT Kevin Givens to a one-year, $2.1 million deal

Mar 13, 2023 at 11:15 AM--

According to Matt Barrows of The Athletic, the San Francisco 49ers are re-signing defensive tackle Kevin Givens to a one-year, $2.1 million deal with $2 million guaranteed. Givens was scheduled to become a restricted free agent.

It's an under-the-radar move with Monday's big Bay Area storyline being the 49ers signing former Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to a four-year, $84 million deal.

San Francisco signed Givens (6-1, 285) as an undrafted free agent out of Penn State in 2019. He registered 20 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, three quarterback hits, and a pass defensed through 13 game appearances (11 starts) with the 49ers last season, per Pro Football Reference.

Givens, 26, has recorded 51 tackles, three sacks, two passes defensed, and a forced fumble in 40 game appearances (12 starts) through his four NFL seasons.

Why John Lynch believes 49ers QB Brock Purdy is the "real deal"

By Rohan Chakravarthi

Over the offseason, there has been significant talk surrounding the San Francisco 49ers and their quarterbacks, especially after the team signed Sam Darnold in free agency, providing them three capable options with starting experience in the former Carolina Panther, Brock Purdy, and Trey Lance. Purdy is evidently the leader in the clubhouse, as stated by general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan several times this offseason, but many have pointed out his flaws, such as the inability to make throws downfield, as a reason why one of the other quarterbacks could win over the starting job with a strong performance in organized team activities(OTAs) and training camp. What do the 49ers believe about Purdy's downfield ability? General manager

Second-year receiver Danny Gray could be the missing piece for the 49ers

By Sasha D. Robinson

San Francisco 49ers second-year wide receiver Danny Gray hopes to improve from a disappointing rookie season and build upon his improvements from organized team activities (OTAs). If Gray can get more playing time, his 4.33-second 40-time could be what a high-powered 49ers offense is missing, a receiver that can stretch opposing defenses and free up Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, arguably the best wide receiver duo in the NFL. At a June 6th press conference, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said the Gray has gotten a lot better from where he left off last season. "I think Danny learned from his first year, just how long that grind is of a rookie year, just going from the offseason of the combine and all the workouts to getting here and really never
