According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the San Francisco 49ers are signing Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to a four-year, $84 million deal that includes $40 million guaranteed. That is a big splash in free agency for the defending NFC West champions.

The move makes 49ers tight end George Kittle happy.

The signing addresses a significant weakness on the team, the interior of the defensive line. At the same time, the 49ers steal a vital component of the Eagles' defense.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made Hargrave (6-2, 305) a third-round selection (No. 89 overall) out of South Carolina State in 2016. He registered 60 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 11 sacks, 16 quarterback hits, two passes defensed, and a forced fumble through 17 starts with the Eagles last season, per Pro Football Reference.

Hargrave, 30, has recorded 329 tackles, 46 tackles for a loss, 37.5 sacks, 64 quarterback hits, six passes defensed, and four forced fumbles in 111 game appearances (96 starts) through his seven NFL seasons with the Steelers and Eagles. He made the Pro Bowl in 2021.
