San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans' schedule just opened up. His team got ousted from the playoffs with a 31-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. Ryans is free to interview with teams looking for head coaches and has a second interview lined up with the Houston Texans.
Ryans is considered a frontrunner for the job. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports that if the second interview goes well, Ryans is expected to become the new head coach in Houston.
With the #49ers season over, defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans will visit Houston this week for a second interview and if all goes well, he's expected to become the #Texans new head coach.
The Texans initially interviewed Ryans on January 20, ahead of the 49ers' playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Ryans played linebacker in Houston for six seasons. He has been a part of 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan's staff since 2017 and has been the team's defensive coordinator for the past two seasons.
Shanahan will likely have to start searching for a new defensive coordinator soon.
