49ers expect Charles Omenihu to play vs. Eagles following domestic violence allegations

Jan 25, 2023 at 12:28 PM--

On Tuesday morning, news broke that San Francisco 49ers defensive end Charles Omenihu had been arrested in San Jose following allegations of domestic violence. The 25-year-old player was booked at the Santa Clara County jail and released after posting bail.

"We are aware of the matter involving Charles Omenihu and are in the process of gathering further information," the 49ers said via a statement issued by the team.

On Wednesday, the NFL released its own statement ahead of this weekend's NFC Championship Game between the 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles.

"The matter will be reviewed under the league's personal conduct policy. There is no change to his status," the statement read.

That means that nothing will immediately change for Omenihu regarding his roster status and availability for Sunday's game. The defensive end will likely be suited up at Lincoln Financial Field.

On Wednesday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters for the first time since the arrest and was asked if there was any concern about playing Omenihu against the Eagles.

"We've looked into it for the last 24 hours or 48 hours," Shanahan said. "Not necessarily myself, but other people. We feel very good letting that legal process take care of itself, and don't feel we should kick him off of our team at this time."

Omenihu will practice with his teammates on Wednesday. Although, he will be a limited participant as he is dealing with an oblique strain.

49ers don't expect Jimmy Garoppolo to be active vs. Eagles; Deebo Samuel added to injury list

By David Bonilla
Jan 25

It was unlikely that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suited up on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, serving as rookie Brock Purdy's backup in the NFC Championship Game. Still, there was a slight chance the injured veteran could be healthy enough to be active. The team awaited the results of an X-ray on Tuesday to see how much Garoppolo's broken foot has recovered. Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters on Wednesday and shared that the 49ers got the X-ray results. "I don't expect to have him this week," Shanahan revealed. Garoppolo sustained his injury on December 4. A return for the Super Bowl remains a possibility. A new name was added to the 49ers' injury report. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel will not practice

Fred Warner, Nick Bosa expect 49ers-Eagles to be 'a battle'

By David Bonilla
Jan 25

The San Francisco 49ers know Sunday might be the toughest test of the season. The team will face the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game at Lincoln Financial Field. A win means returning to the Super Bowl for the second time in four years. "I expect it to be a battle all the way through," linebacker Fred Warner told reporters on Wednesday. "Both the Cowboys and Eagles are physical and talented teams who are really fast and have a lot of talent. Just like it was a battle this past week (against Dallas), I'm expecting that, if not more, this week, them being in their home stadium, home crowd behind them. They're going to be juiced up, ready to go." The 49ers finished the season with the top-ranked defense. The Eagles defense wasn't far behind. San

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their NFC Championship Game contest against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Christian McCaffrey returned to practice on Friday after missing Wednesday's and Thursday's sessions. The star running back recently declared there is "zero" chance he misses Sunday's game. The 49ers did not list him on their game status report, indicating he will play. "He looked full go," head coach Kyle Shanahan declared after practice. Elijah Mitchell did not practice on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday due to a groin injury. However, he got some individual work before

John Lynch: Brock Purdy continuing to evaluate options, 49ers still expect 6-month recovery

By David Bonilla
Feb 1

There was concern that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy might require reconstruction of the torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in the elbow of his throwing arm rather than a repair, lengthening his recovery from about six months to maybe a year. However, nothing has led the 49ers to believe the more extensive procedure is required. Purdy suffered the injury during Sunday's NFC Championship Game when Eagles pass rusher Haason Reddick hit his arm in the first quarter. He returned to the game in the second half after backup Josh Johnson was ruled out with a concussion, but Purdy could not throw the football, attempting just one pass after the injury. "Yeah, I think he's continuing to get some different opinions, talk to different people, which I think
