Merry Christmas, Kyle Shanahan. For the fourth time this season, and the first time since Week 11, the San Francisco 49ers coach stepped up to the podium for his post-game press conference and reported that his squad didn't suffer any in-game injuries during its 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders.
The victory was the 49ers' 11th of the season and eighth straight. The team is red-hot in the final stretch of the regular season.
There were a couple of scares in the game. On the opening kickoff, running back Jordan Mason stayed down on the field, expressing concern about his right leg. The 49ers had listed Mason "questionable" heading into the game due to a hamstring injury sustained this past week.
"The guy got tripped up and went low on him," Shanahan said. "I think he got more scared than anything, thought it was going to be his knee for a little bit. By the time he jogged off and told me, and they came back like five seconds later, said he was all right."
In the third quarter, cornerback Charvarius Ward complained about some nausea. That was concerning because the defensive back spent this past week in the concussion protocol. So naturally, he was evaluated extensively for a potential head injury.
"He just told us he was feeling nauseous," Shanahan said. "Once he told us that, with what happened last week, we sent him in to the doctor. So they went through all that stuff, and he ended up being fine."
Ward returned to the game in the fourth quarter, and neither he nor Mason are dealing with anything serious.
San Francisco clinched the NFC West title and a playoff spot during Week 15's win against the Seattle Seahawks. The team closes out the regular season on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders and then at home against the Arizona Cardinals.
