Christian McCaffrey won’t practice Wednesday as 49ers prepare for Dolphins

Nov 30, 2022 at 11:59 AM--

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey played through some knee irritation on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. While Kyle Shanahan didn't sound too concerned about the injury after the game, the 49ers coach said his running back would miss the first practice of the week as the team prepares to host the Miami Dolphins at Levi's Stadium on Sunday.

"He just felt something in it (during the game), some irritation," Shanahan told reporters before Wednesday's practice.

A reporter asked if there was any concern about his availability for this weekend. The coach paused and looked at his injury sheet before responding.

"It's keeping him from going today, so I hope not," Shanahan finally said.

Defensive end Charles Omenihu will also miss Wednesday's practice as he also deals with knee irritation.

"He was sore after the game," Shanahan said. "It's still sore, so we've got to be careful with it."

Defensive lineman Arik Armstead has not played since Week 4 due to foot and ankle injuries. He returned to practice last Friday but was inactive on Sunday against the Saints.

Armstead could be on the field this weekend against the Miami Dolphins. However, he'll need to get through this week's practices before the 49ers clear him to play. The defensive lineman will be limited on Wednesday.

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is dealing with a quad injury and is also expected to be limited. Guard Spencer Burford, who suffered an ankle sprain on Sunday, will warm up with the team and see if he can make it through practice as a limited participant.

Jimmy Garoppolo was "pretty sore" on Monday after taking a hit to his knee from Saints defensive lineman Malcolm Roach the day before. However, Shanahan was hopeful his quarterback would feel good enough by Wednesday's practice, and it sounds like he does. Garoppolo is expected to be a full participant.

By David Bonilla
Jan 26

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their NFC Championship Game contest against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Aside from tackle Trent Williams returning from his veteran day off, nothing changed compared to Wednesday's practice participation report. Two 49ers running backs sat out Wednesday's practice due to injuries. Nothing changed for Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell on Thursday. Neither participated in the afternoon session. However, McCaffrey was on hand for the team's walk-through before practice. How concerned is the 49ers head coach about his running backs' statuses? "Same concerns I had yesterday," Kyle Shanahan said. One person who isn't

Christian McCaffrey returns to practice ahead of 49ers-Eagles; Elijah Mitchell still sidelined

There probably wasn't much concern inside the San Francisco 49ers building surrounding running back Christian McCaffrey's availability for Sunday's NFC Championship Game matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. When asked about the chances of not playing this weekend, McCaffrey responded, "Zero." The media has kept an eye on the situation because McCaffrey missed the first two practices this week due to a calf contusion. The running back was back on the practice field on Friday, though, indicating he will be ready to go against the Eagles. The bad news is that running back Elijah Mitchell, who also missed Wednesday's and Thursday's practices, was not on the

According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey won't practice on Thursday, which means he'll have missed two consecutive practices due to a calf contusion. It's something everyone around the NFL media world is keeping an eye on this week as the team prepares for its NFC Championship Game clash against the Philadelphia Eagles. Don't expect a little injury to keep McCaffrey out on Sunday, though. Reporters asked the running back if there was any chance in his mind that he wouldn't play against the Eagles. "Zero," McCaffrey quickly and confidently responded. The 49ers traded for McCaffrey on October 20, 2022. He has started each of the team's past 12 games, including these last two playoff matchups. The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their NFC Championship Game contest against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
