The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 7 contest against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Cornerback Charvarius Ward returned to the practice field after suffering a groin injury against the Atlanta Falcons. The 49ers hope to have him available against his former team this weekend. He is "questionable" for the game.

Safety Talanoa Hufanga remains in the concussion protocol, still practicing in a blue no-contact jersey.

"He's got to pass one other step tomorrow," head coach Kyle Shanahan said after Friday's practice.

The 49ers don't plan to activate cornerback Jason Verrett from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list before Sunday.

"Verrett won't be up this week," Shanahan shared. "We've got to make a decision next week. He's still the same."

If the 49ers don't activate Verrett next week, the cornerback will remain on the PUP list, ending his season. Verrett is attempting to return from the ACL injury he suffered during Week 1 last year.

Not on the game status report were defensive end Nick Bosa (groin), tackle Trent Williams (ankle), and safety Jimmie Ward (hand). That means all three are expected to play.

Below are the official injury reports for the 49ers and Chiefs, provided by the 49ers Communications staff. Also included are Friday's practice participation reports.

49ers vs. Rams injury update: CB Ambry Thomas (knee) questionable to return

By Rohan Chakravarthi
Sep 17

The San Francisco 49ers were able to get out of Week 1 nearly injury-free, as cornerback Ambry Thomas was cleared of a concussion, which was the lone listed injury following the game for head coach Kyle Shanahan. Unfortunately, the first injury of the game for the 49ers in Week 2 has arrived, as cornerback Ambry Thomas is questionable to return with a knee injury. Thomas had started the game at outside cornerback, but was replaced by veteran Isaiah Oliver, who moved inside, placing Deommodore Lenoir on the outside to start the defense's second drive. The San Francisco 49ers recently worked out a familiar face. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the team took a look at cornerback Jason Verrett, who spent 2019 through 2022 with the Niners. However, multiple injuries limited his ability to contribute to the defense consistently. Wilson reports that San Francisco also worked out defensive backs Xavier Crawford, Michael Ojemudia, who was signed to the Los Angeles Rams practice squad, and Kendall Sheffield. #49ers worked out defensive backs Xavier Crawford, Michael

49ers-Giants: Trent Williams calls punch of A'Shawn Robinson a 'love tap'; Official explains why Williams wasn't ejected

By Kirk Larrabee
Sep 21

Those who watched Thursday night's game between the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants may want to know why no ejections took place after 49ers left tackle Trent Williams punched the face mask of Giants defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson as the first half came to a close. NFL Senior Vice President of Officiating Walt Anderson gave an explanation behind that decision after the game, while Williams played his punch off as a "love tap." The incident took place towards the end of the first half of the 49ers' 30-12 win over the Giants, following a play where the 49ers downed the ball. Robinson can be seen giving Williams a poke in the chin, after which Williams swung and hit Robinson in the face

49ers vs. Giants Injury Report: Brandon Aiyuk questionable; Saquon Barkley ruled out

By David Bonilla
Sep 20

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 3 contest against the New York Giants on Thursday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Brandon Aiyuk will likely be a game-time decision. On Wednesday morning, general manager John Lynch shared that the wide receiver is working hard this week to play on Thursday. Aiyuk suffered a shoulder injury on a catch during the 49ers' opening drive on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. "I think, with Brandon, with these Thursday night games, they're a quick turnaround," Lynch said during a radio interview. "So he clearly got something irritated in his chest/shoulder area. He's working really hard to try to get ready.
