San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan joined KNBR on Friday morning and provided a couple of injury updates. Defensive linemen Arik Armstead and Javon Kinlaw have not practiced this week. Armstead is dealing with foot and ankle injuries, while Kinlaw is trying to overcome some knee issues.
Shanahan ruled out Armstead for Sunday's Week 5 contest against the Carolina Panthers.
"Arik's not going to go this week," Shanahan said on the Murph & Mac show. "I'll end up telling people that later, but yeah, we just had to rule him out."
The coach was asked if Armstead's foot injury was a long-term concern. The defensive lineman played on Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams but couldn't finish the game.
"We'll see," Shanahan responded. "It's week-to-week with him right now. Any time we don't have Arik, we're concerned. It's something that was bothering him. He got a new thing on a different foot last game that just made it a little bit worse, and we've got to take it a little slower this week."
As for Kinlaw, the defensive tackle isn't likely to play this weekend. He did not play against the Rams.
"Odds are he's not going to be able to go either," Shanahan said. "I haven't talked to the trainers yet [on whether] we'll officially rule him out, but he hasn't been able to practice this week yet."
Shanahan and the 49ers will reveal the game statuses of their injured players this afternoon, following the last practice of the week. Later today, the team is set to travel to the East Coast for their two-game road stint, which starts with the Panthers and concludes with the Atlanta Falcons in Week 6.
