San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance could not travel with his teammates for the Week 3 contest against the Denver Broncos. He pleaded his case to do so, calling his head coach, Kyle Shanahan, the day after
undergoing surgery to repair the fibula fracture and ligament disruption in his ankle sustained from the Week 2 injury. The swelling had not yet gone down, so Lance was forced to stay in the Bay Area.
In the days following his surgery on Monday, September 19, Lance joined team meetings via Zoom. Then, that Friday, he surprised his teammates by appearing in person for their team meeting.
"He's been in everything so far," Shanahan said before Wednesday's practice. "He was with us at the hotel on ... Sunday night. I'm not sure if he's allowed to go on this trip yet, but as soon as the medical [team] clears him to fly, he'll be going everywhere with us."
On Friday, the 49ers will set off on their two-game road trip. They will face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday and the Atlanta Falcons a week later. Between the two games, the team will be staying and practicing at The Greenbrier in West Virginia to stay acclimated to the East Coast timezone.
While it's unknown if Lance will get to travel with the 49ers, there is no doubt that he will make every effort to remain a part of the team as he recovers from his season-ending injury. That is vital to his growth and development as a player.
Shanahan added, "He hasn't missed a meeting yet. Just missing the practice stuff."

The San Francisco 49ers restructured fullback Kyle Juszczyk's contract this week, generating approximately $4 million in salary cap space for 2024 and roughly $1.1 million for 2025. They accomplished this by converting salary into a signing bonus and extending the cap implications through three void years.
Effectively, Juszczyk now has a two-year, $9.1 million deal, keeping him under contract through 2025, with the salary cap impact stretching until 2026.

49ers approach Kyle Juszczyk about salary reduction
Just hours after news broke that the San Francisco 49ers plan to release defensive tackle Arik Armstead as a salary-cap savings move, Adam Caplan of Pro Football Network revealed that the team has initiated discussions with long-serving fullback Kyle Juszczyk regarding a potential salary reduction.
"The San Francisco 49ers have approached fullback Kyle Juszczyk, an eight-time Pro Bowl (2016-2023) selection and first-team All-Pro last season, for a salary reduction for the 2024 season, a league source said," Caplan wrote. "Both sides have not reached an agreement on this issue, so his
Charvarius Ward willing to help 49ers land Tre'Davious White
The San Francisco 49ers likely aren't finished fortifying their defense and have reportedly expressed interest in bolstering their defensive backfield. If they require assistance making a significant move, one 49ers player is prepared to lend a helping hand.
Last week, the Buffalo Bills released All-Pro cornerback Tre'Davious White, who appears to be an ideal fit for San Francisco's needs opposite Charvarius Ward. Over the weekend, Ward took to social media to reveal that he and White share the same agent and that he is willing to nudge the free-agent defensive back in the right direction.
Ward described White as a "hand in glove
