Samuel suffered a contusion behind his knee during the preseason finale against the Houston Texans and did not practice last week. However, the injury was never seen as serious, and his availability for Week 1 was never in jeopardy.
The most significant benefit is that quarterback Trey Lance has one of his best offensive weapons back at practice as he prepares for his first season as a full-time starter.
Samuel had a breakout season in 2021, recording 1,770 all-purpose yards and 14 total touchdowns, earning a three-year extension in July worth up to $73.5 million, keeping him with San Francisco through the 2025 season.
According to Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group, linebacker Oren Burks (knee) and offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill (hamstring) did not practice. Linebacker Dre Greenlaw was seen in a blue no-contact jersey.

Matt Barrows of The Athletic adds that cornerback Dontae Johnson is out of his blue no-contact jersey. He has been dealing with a rib injury.
Other observations:

* Dontae Johnson is out of his blue, no-contact jersey but Dre Greenlaw (arm) is in one.
* No Daniel Brunskill, which creates Q about who will be backup C Sunday.
* No Jimmie Ward (hamstring) or Oren Burks (knee).
