Shanahan: Dee Ford to undergo physical this week, still unlikely to remain with 49ers; Danny Gray sidelined
Dee Ford will report to the San Francisco 49ers this week. However, he won't be participating in the team's three-day mandatory minicamp. It sounds like the 49ers still plan to part ways with the veteran defensive end.
"He's going to come in. He's been excused from minicamp," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Tuesday. "I think he's coming in to get his physical later this week. But no, he's not doing anything with us."
The coach was asked if the physical is a precursor to the 49ers releasing Ford or possibly retirement.
"I know we've gotten a good bill of health from his doctors, saying how good he is in this spot," Shanahan said. "We're going to check him out with our physical. I do not expect him to be on our team. But those are the [two] options that could happen."
Back issues limited Ford last season. The pass rusher appeared in just six games before landing on injured reserve. He played in just one game in 2020. Ford has recorded 9.5 sacks in his three injury-plagued seasons with the 49ers.
Shanahan added that rookie wide receiver
Danny Gray is not practicing due to a hamstring injury sustained during organized team activities last week.
"That's why he's out this week, and will most likely be out next week," Shanahan said.

Seven 49ers free agents still searching for an NFL team
The first week of NFL free agency is in the books, and there has been a lot of movement made by the San Francisco 49ers. The team added defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, quarterback Sam Darnold, and others to the roster.
As is the case every year, departures are inevitable. Gone are some high-profile names like quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (Raiders) and tackle Mike McGlinchey (Broncos). Key players like cornerback Emmanuel Moseley (Lions) and offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill (Titans) have also found new NFL homes.
San Francisco has tendered a one-year deal to exclusive-rights free agent wide receiver Jauan Jennings. In addition, the following eight 49ers restricted or unrestricted free agents have returned to the team.

6 biggest 49ers draft mistakes of the Shanahan and Lynch era
By Rohan Chakravarthi

The San Francisco 49ers have been known as a team that has built throughout the draft in the Kyle Shanahan era, which has led to seasoned success throughout the head coach's tenure, with the organization reaching the NFC Championship Game three times over the past four seasons.
However, among the several draft hits that have propelled their roster to one of the league's best, there have been several mistakes that set the organization back at the time.
With the NFL Draft approaching next month, and the 49ers having another integral draft for their future success, let's revisit the five biggest draft mistakes of the Shanahan-Lynch era thus far.

Assessing the 49ers roster and needs after one week of free agency
The first wave of free agency has come and gone, and the 49ers have had to say goodbye to a number of familiar faces while welcoming a few new ones. There's been a good amount of shuffling over the past week, but one thing remains clear -- the 49ers still have one of the best rosters in the NFL.
There's still more players to be added in the weeks ahead, both in the draft and in free agency. The 49ers still need depth and competition in a few areas, and maybe a new starter in a key spot on special teams. But with the way things look now, the 49ers could be looking at a fairly complete roster with very few weaknesses once they're done with their offseason moves.
Here's a look at where things stand by position as of March 17, along with some thoughts on where the
