Is it time to worry about Deebo Samuel snubbing the 49ers on social media?

Apr 7, 2022 at 1:22 PM--

Is there trouble between the San Francisco 49ers and their star wide receiver, Deebo Samuel? First, many noticed that Samuel had unfollowed the team on Instagram. Most felt that wasn't a big deal, though. Some of us even laughed at the premature angst it caused on social media. Most recently, however, the receiver removed his Instagram profile picture, which once featured him in his 49ers uniform.

Apparently, Samuel has also removed all of the photos he had posted of himself in a 49ers uniform.

All of this is causing a mini-panic among the fanbase. Samuel is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is eligible for an extension. Of course, there are those with the attitude of Matt Barrows of The Athletic, who takes a more level-headed approach to the online speculation.

Perhaps this is a negotiating tactic by Samuel and his agent. Samuel has watched many of his peers cash in this offseason. First, Davante Adams signed a five-year contract worth up to $140 million after the Green Bay Packers traded him to the Las Vegas Raiders. Then, Tyreek Hill received a four-year contract worth up to $120 million after the Kansas City Chiefs traded him to the Miami Dolphins. Most recently, Stefon Diggs signed a four-year extension worth up to $104 million with the Buffalo Bills.

Here is what appeared to be Samuel's reaction to Diggs' new deal.

Until Samuel addresses his social media edits, each will continue to be scrutinized by a fanbase that hopes the relationship between the 49ers and the receiver hasn't soured.

On Thursday, Good Morning Football's Peter Schrager spoke to Pat McAfee about Samuel's social media actions.

"I think he's upset, and I think the Niners, they don't give money out," Schrager said. "[George] Kittle had to wait, and other guys had to wait. Jimmy's (Garoppolo) still on the salary cap right now for $25 million. … [Players are] not getting it when they want it. They're going to get it when the team wants it."

Is it time to worry about Deebo Samuel's social media actions? Probably not. But it's still causing a lot of chatter in an otherwise slow part of the offseason.

George Kittle wishes the 49ers didn't delay Deebo Samuel extension

Earlier this week, Bleacher Report listed what it believes is the one offseason regret for each NFL team. For the San Francisco 49ers, it was the team not locking wide receiver Deebo Samuel to a contract extension earlier—before the receiver market exploded earlier in the offseason and Samuel requested to be traded. One 49ers star wishes his team had taken care of Samuel earlier, avoiding the offseason drama altogether. Samuel reported to the team's mandatory minicamp earlier this month but didn't participate in the on-field work. "Hindsight is 20-20, right?" tight end George Kittle said this week on the

49ers' Deebo Samuel, George Kittle among PFF's top offensive duos

The San Francisco 49ers would probably love to see Brandon Aiyuk emerge as one of the top receivers in the NFL. That would make an Aiyuk-Deebo Samuel duo a headache for opposing defenses. Until then, the 49ers have two impressive offensive weapons in Samuel and tight end George Kittle. That's good news for second-year quarterback Trey Lance, who is expected to be the team's Week 1 starter after starting only two games as a rookie. The Samuel-Kittle pairing ranks among Pro Football Focus' top five offensive duos heading into the 2022 season. Fowler: 49ers' Deebo Samuel hasn't rescinded trade request

Deebo Samuel attended the San Francisco 49ers' mandatory minicamp earlier this month but did not participate in the practices. General manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan continued to share their optimism that the 49ers will sign Samuel to a contract extension despite the wide receiver requesting a trade earlier in the offseason. Samuel's willingness to report to the mandatory minicamp gave the impression that there is hope that the rift between player and team can be resolved and that a contract extension might come before training camp. However, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that nothing has changed regarding Samuel's stance. "I'm told status quo is really when he reported to minicamp; that's the last piece of news that we have here," Fowler said

Deebo Samuel and 49ers stalemate: Who's the bully?

Even though talks between All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel and the San Francisco 49ers have been slow, the situation appears to be far from over. Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Samuel hasn't rescinded his trade request with the team. Samuel is entering the last season of his rookie contract. He is a 26-year-old wide receiver with three accrued seasons who will receive $3.99 million in 2022 with a $4.89 million salary-cap hit. What Samuel did in 2022 was phenomenal. As a wide receiver, he had 1,405 yards and six touchdowns from 77 receptions, averaging 18.2 yards per catch. In addition, Samuel had 59 carries for 365 yards and eight touchdowns as a running back, averaging 6.2
