49ers GM John Lynch provides an injury update on Mike McGlinchey

Mar 2, 2022 at 11:29 AM--

On Wednesday, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch spoke with reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. He provided an update on his starting right tackle, Mike McGlinchey.

During the 49ers' November 7, 2021 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, McGlinchey suffered a torn quad injury, missing the remaining nine games of the season. Some questioned the severity of the injury, wondering if it could even threaten his career.

"Mike's doing well," Lynch told reporters. "He had a significant surgery to repair that quad tendon. But just as Mike has always done, he attacks everything 100 percent, and his rehab is going really well.

"So, we're pleased with his progress. We're going to give him the time he needs, so not only [does] he gets back, but he gets back and is pain-free, and can play like we believe he's capable of playing."

San Francisco made McGlinchey the No. 9 overall pick in 2018. Through his four NFL seasons, he has started all 52 games in which he has been available.

Jason Verrett is once again working his way back from a devastating injury. The veteran cornerback showed his worth in 2020, proving to be one of the defense's best players and entered his 2021 campaign as one of the 49ers' starting cornerbacks, but suffered a season-ending ACL injury during Week 1. Verrett's career has been injury-plagued. While he has played in the league for eight years, the cornerback has avoided landing on injured reserve just twice (2015, 2020). Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters before Saturday's practice and was asked about Verrett's timeline. The cornerback started training camp on the physically-unable-to-perform list. "We would love to get him into camp," Shanahan said. "We'd love to get him ready for Week 1. I

"I think Fred has done a great job of leading this team, leading this defense so Fred understands the limits. It's training camp, it happens all the time and at all 32 training camps, I'm pretty sure scuffles and things like that happen. You want guys to be smart and understand we are teammates

John Lynch: Trey Lance 'really just asserted himself' this offseason, seizing 49ers' starting job

By David Bonilla
Aug 7

Trey Lance spent last season as the backup quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, sitting and learning behind veteran Jimmy Garoppolo. However, things are different this year. Lance has taken the reins from Garoppolo as the team's starting quarterback. While there was media speculation that Garoppolo might eventually work his way into a quarterback competition, for the 49ers, Lance has been the guy for a while now. "We got into the offseason, and the thought really was this is going to become Trey's team," general manager John Lynch recently told The Athletic. "We go through OTAs and all of that, and he really just asserted himself. Those decisions are Kyle's. We obviously
