49ers-Rams Injury Report: Trent Williams, Elijah Mitchell don’t practice

Jan 26, 2022 at 3:49 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their NFC Championship Game contest against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

The 49ers activated wide receiver Mohamed Sanu (knee) off of injured reserve, and he was out on the practice field preparing for the Rams.

Cornerback Ambry Thomas was inactive against the Green Bay Packers due to a bone bruise in his knee. He practiced but was limited.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, dealing with shoulder and thumb injuries, was a full participant. In fact, head coach Kyle Shanahan noted that the shoulder injury no longer appeared on his injury list.

"I hear about the thumb more than the shoulder, so that's off the injury report now," Shanahan said before practice. "So I guess we're good."

Tackle Trent Williams sustained an ankle injury against the Packers, leaving his status for Sunday unclear. The All-Pro offensive lineman didn't practice but isn't being ruled out.

"In Trent's mind, there's no way he's not playing," Shanahan said. "That's why he was so crushed last game (Week 18) because he believed he would, and his body wouldn't let him. So hopefully, we'll have some better luck this game. But I know he believes he's playing, and so do I. So, we'll see how that pans out as the week goes. If he can, he will."

Neither wide receiver Deebo Samuel nor tight end George Kittle appeared on the injury report, which means both were full participants in practice.

Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Rams, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.

49ers' George Kittle: 'Trent Williams is the best football player in the NFL'

By David Bonilla

Trent Williams' 97.8 overall Pro Football Focus grade from the 2021 regular season led the NFL. In fact, it was the highest-ever grade awarded by the analytics site. Now, some will criticize the grade, arguing that you can't consider an offensive tackle the best player in the league. Don't tell that to All-Pro tight end George Kittle, Williams' San Francisco 49ers teammate. "Trent Williams is the best football player in the NFL," Kittle declared Friday on The Pat McAfee Show (h/t NBC Sports Bay Area). "I don't care. You could talk to me about any

Albert Breer on 49ers and Jimmy Garoppolo: 'I don't believe the plan right now is to keep him'

Jimmy Garoppolo won't be in attendance as the San Francisco 49ers kick off organized team activities this week. He is still recovering from the shoulder surgery he underwent on March 8 and won't be medically cleared to throw again until late next month or early July. There has been speculation that the 49ers might be willing to hold onto Garoppolo this season. The team's inability to trade their injured quarterback and unwillingness to release the player outright sparked that speculation. However, Albert Breer of The MMQB believes San Francisco still intends to offload Garoppolo before the start of the season. "San Francisco, for what it's worth, has had an open line of communication with Garoppolo's camp the last few months, and both sides are

49ers' Trey Lance finally healthy after injury-riddled rookie campaign, isn't concerned with outside criticism

It feels like everywhere you turn, there is someone reporting skepticism about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance. On Tuesday, Lance and his teammates (most of them, at least) were back on the practice field for the second day of organized team activities. This time, reporters were allowed to watch. Lance was among the players made available to the media after the on-field session. A reporter asked him about the reports of doubt from those on the outside looking in. The quarterback offered an honest response. "In the most respectful way possible, it doesn't change how I feel about you guys as people, but it's not my job to care what you guys say," Lance told reporters. "Or anyone else on social media. For me, I care what the guys in the locker room think,

49ers OTAs: Kyle Shanahan provides several injury updates

By David Bonilla

Kyle Shanahan wasn't eager to share an injury report on Tuesday after the San Francisco 49ers concluded their second practice of organized team activities. He had a list of injuries in front of him in case anyone asked about specific players. However, the coach didn't unnecessarily volunteer any information because he doesn't have to right now. That didn't stop reporters from asking about specific players based on their lack of participation during Tuesday's practice. Those questions led to Shanahan providing several updates.
