Giants reportedly hiring Bills’ Joe Schoen, not 49ers’ Adam Peters, as next GM

Jan 21, 2022 at 9:26 AM--

It looks like the San Francisco 49ers might be able to hold onto assistant general manager Adam Peters for a little longer. He was a finalist in the New York Giants' hunt for a new general manager, and it looks like the NFC East team is going in a different direction.

The Giants are reportedly hiring Buffalo Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen to be their next general manager, per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. Peters interviews twice for the job—once on Monday and again on Thursday.

The Giants' hiring of Schoen is good news for John Lynch, who made Peters one of his first hires upon being named the 49ers general manager in 2017. Peters started his time in Santa Clara as the VP of player personnel after eight years with the Denver Broncos. He has been a big part of rebuilding San Francisco's roster and was promoted to assistant general manager on February 19, 2021.

49ers OTAs: Brock Purdy may start throwing next week, Kyle Shanahan "pretty optimistic" about Week 1 return

By David Bonilla

On Tuesday, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided an update on Brock Purdy. The second-year quarterback underwent surgery on March 10 to repair the tear of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow, an injury he suffered in the NFC Championship Game in January. Purdy is recovering well. There have been no setbacks as the quarterback works his way to increasing his workload. "He's doing good," Shanahan said of his quarterback's recovery. "Still staying the same. [He's] on schedule." The 49ers always believed that Purdy would be able to start throwing a football again sometime in early June. That's next week. The good news is that nothing about that timeline has changed. "I think he's allowed to throw sometime

Why PFF warns not to overreact to 49ers QB Brock Purdy's early success

Pro Football Focus named Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs as the NFL's best in its recent ranking of starting quarterbacks. It's hard to argue with that choice. Behind Mahomes are Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals. Brock Purdy finished last season as the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback. He came in when the team lost its second starting quarterback of the season. Trey Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury during Week 2. Then, Jimmy Garoppolo broke a foot during Week 13. That thrust Purdy into the starting lineup, and he guided the 49ers to eight consecutive wins, all the way to the NFC Championship Game. Unfortunately, Purdy became the 49ers' third starting quarterback to suffer a serious injury, a

Kyle Shanahan feels "really fortunate" with 49ers' QB room

By David Bonilla

Kyle Shanahan praises his quarterback room every year. Last season, the San Francisco 49ers went through three starting quarterbacks and still made it to the NFC Championship Game. Trey Lance was the Week 1 starter but suffered a season-ending ankle injury during his second game. Eleven weeks later, Jimmy Garoppolo sustained a broken foot. That opened the door for rookie Brock Purdy to show his coaches and the NFL world that he belonged, despite being the last overall pick in the draft. Purdy guided the 49ers to eight consecutive wins before suffering a severe injury in that NFC title game matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Two of the quarterbacks from last season—Lance and Purdy—remain. Both are just 23 years old. They are joined by Sam
