Trent Williams missed the regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Rams because of an elbow injury. The San Francisco 49ers tackle intends to be back on the field with his teammates for Sunday's playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Williams spoke with reporters after Thursday's practice and provided some details on the injury that forced him to cheer from the sidelines this past weekend. The good news is that Williams is feeling better than he did last week, and that bodes well for his availability on Sunday.
"The elbow is doing good," Williams said. "It's made a lot of improvement over the past week or so. Yeah, I practiced today. It felt pretty good. I chose to go with the tape (versus a brace). I'm not a huge fan of the brace. I went with the tape today, but everything feels pretty good."
Williams revealed that he injured his elbow on the sixth play against the Houston Texans in Week 17 but played through the injury because he knew how important the win was for the 49ers' playoff hopes.
"I just kinda labored through it. I got it done," Williams shared. "Eventually, when we had the game in hand, they let me come out. ... I just gritted through it, and I paid the price later."
Williams added: "It won't require surgery. It's something that there's a non-surgical approach, so I think that's probably what we'll lean on taking."
