Fowler: 49ers have ‘no major concerns’ surrounding Deebo Samuel and Fred Warner injuries

Nov 29, 2021 at 1:35 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers aren't too concerned about the injuries that wide receiver Deebo Samuel and linebacker Fred Warner sustained during Sunday's 34-26 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Samuel exited the game due to a groin injury. A hamstring injury sidelined Warner.

On Monday morning, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Samuel's setback is "not considered a major injury," but that the team's leading receiver is expected to "miss a little time." That more than likely rules Samuel out for Sunday's Week 13 game against the Seattle Seahawks.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler provided an update on both players, who received MRIs on Monday morning. The reporter states that the injuries are considered "short-term" setbacks, and there is "no major concern for now." Although, he added that there is still testing taking place.

We may learn more later. Head coach Kyle Shanahan is scheduled to speak with reporters via a conference call on Monday at 3:30 p.m. PT.

"I don't think it's as bad as you worry," Shanahan said of Samuel's injury after Sunday's game. "We're hoping it's a little strain, and he feels that it might be."

49ers LB Fred Warner explains why being irritating at practice is a good thing

By Kirk Larrabee
Jul 30

Fred Warner has been getting on the nerves of some of his 49ers teammates recently, but it's all being done in preparation for what's to come during the regular season. Warner was singled out earlier this week by wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk as being "irritating" during practice. Warner told Aiyuk in the locker room ahead of practice that he was going to be talking some smack that day, but he still seemed to get under Aiyuk's skin a little bit. "He told me what type of time it is in the locker room earlier today, so I can't be mad at him," Aiyuk said. "We're all competitors. That defense is the best defense in the National Football League, so that's

What rubbed 49ers safety Jimmie Ward the wrong way about the Los Angeles Rams last season to the point where he's already looking to face off against them on the field? Ward spoke about that subject on Sunday, as he was one of a handful of players to talk with local and national media during and after 49ers practice. Also speaking with reporters was defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans, who provided a number of thoughts on a few defensive players who are competing for roster spots and playing time. For a rundown of what Ward said Sunday as well as some quotes from Ryans, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk's thoughts on his squabble with linebacker Fred Warner, and much more, check out this version of 49ers Notebook. Will the 49ers sign a veteran center? Will they move Deebo Samuel to tight end? And other mailbag questions answered

On Monday, the San Francisco 49ers began padded practices. The contract extension for Deebo Samuel was also announced. It's a fun time of the year, as the team prepares to make another run for a sixth Super Bowl championship. We opened up the 49ers mailbag and had plenty of questions to choose from. Let's respond to a handful: Diana Kayatani: There's talk about Jimmy possibly going to the Seahawks. If and when he leaves, where should he go? Felix Watkins: Where do you think Jimmy is going? The world awaits news on Jimmy Garoppolo. Will he be traded or released? Where will he go? Will he be a starter or a backup? How does he get his hair to look so nice? I wish we already had the answer to those questions. The good

What does Seahawks' WR D.K. Metcalf's extension mean for 49ers' WR Deebo Samuel's potential extension?

Seattle Seahawks star receiver receiver D.K. Metcalf finally received his long-term contract extension, earning a three-year, $72 million deal with $58.2 million guaranteed, as well as a $30 million signing bonus, which was the largest ever for a wide receiver in NFL history. Now comes San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel's contract extension, as the two sides have been continuously in talks over the past few weeks according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. In a slew of major deals for wide receivers this offseason, there are three specific cases that could be the defining factor in Samuel's contract negotiations: Philadelphia Eagles wideout A.J. Brown, Washington Commanders wideout Terry McLaurin, and now Seattle Seahawks wideout D.K.
